I purchased several blast gates all 4", 5" and 6" for my dust collection system. Before installing them I dissembled each blast gate and applied a thin strip of slick tape (Item #16L64 Model .020\"x.75\"x10.5 FT available at Woodcraft) in the track the gate slides in, and trimmed it flush with a razor knife blast gate body and reassembled. Before reassembling also take a smooth file to the edges of the gate to remove any raised metal and burrs. All these little extras you do will will allow your blast gate to open and close more smoothly and help it seal while keeping the the blast gate free of excess dust.

I bought about 14 of theses gates to put on two separate circuits of 7 each. The leakage from the gates is so bad and the loss of suction in the system is both noticeable and unacceptable. I have two sizable Delta vacuum blowers. The plan was to never have more than 2-3 gates open at any one time. Does anyone know of a 4" gate that seals well and can handle frequent opening and closing? I fear the rest of Woodcraft's line( based on reviews) will either not be durable enough or will also leak profusely. This is a poorly designed and poor performing product. Would not recommend unless you have a monster vacuum blower that can handle the loss.

The blast gates I got today have knurled knobs, I see that the reviews from 7 years ago say they need a wrench. Must be Woodcraft has updated the item. It would be helpful if both sides were pictured. They seem to be the same as the ones I got from Acme Tools last year, those work quite well.
