Star-M Japanese 601 Precision Drill Bits - Singles Reviews

5 Rating 3 Reviews
Read Workshop Heaven Reviews

Designed specifically for soft materials like wood, leather and plastics that can otherwise be problematic to drill, these wonderfully innovative Japanese drill bits produce exceptionally clean, crisp holes.
Hooked spurs clear any remaining waste from the perimeter of the cut, these are followed by semi-circular wings that incise a little deeper to part the waste from the surrounding material. A curved cutting edge then planes the waste out and sends it up the flutes.
For plastics use a low speed setting, for fibrous materials use your highest speed setting, and in both cases introduce the bit to the material gradually.

These are the only bits I've been able to use to drill overlapping holes - they are extremely sharp - so handle with care. They produce the cleanest entry/exit hole for pegged mortise and tenon joints, where as the regular Type F Star-M bits tear up pine (unfortunately). They're also known as "bamboo bits" in some Star-M marketing.

Perfect drill for 10.5 mm holes in classical guitar headstocks. It could have been specially designed for the job!

So far seem like very good drill bits, worth the money. My previous drill bits would always tear the wood when they entered but these leave nice crisp holes with no need for masking tape etcetera.
