Carving green wood into spoons, bowls, kuksa and other items has to be one of life's simplest and most soul nourishing pleasures. It is all the more enjoyable if you have invested in good quality knives that are comfortable to use for long periods.Hand forged O1 carbon steel, carefully heat treated to give a smooth, crisp edge that is both long lasting and easy to maintain. At first glance the beech handles look fairly ordinary, but they fill the hand perfectly and give superb control.Curved or Straight? It's a personal preference. The straight whittling knife works well on convex surfaces and is easy to hone yet the curved whittling knife is versatile enough to work on shallow concave surfaces.

This is my first whittling knife as I'm new to whittling. I have now finished a small bird in iroko wood that I'd started using my palm tools, and then started and finished a snail in lime wood. I managed to do most of the snail with the knife, only the concave bits had to be done with the palm tools. The knife came lovely and sharp and I have been keeping it that way with a strop. Iroko wood is quite hard and the knife coped with it very well. I'm really pleased with it overall and am thinking of getting the curved one as well!
