Fibreglass is the ideal material for weatherproofing flat roofs laid with plywood, OSB board or HDF board. It has a 30-year history of successful use. The finished, watertight grey topcoat surface is smooth and easy to clean and maintain. The roofing system has been fire tested to BS 476 pt 3 external fire exposure roof test and achieved an EXT.F.AB rating. The most important element to fibreglass roofing is the materials. At Fibreglass Direct we only supply the highest quality materials. Included in our kits are the following important materials that other suppliers may not include for: Flexible Resin - This helps the roof to withstand thermal expansion/contraction variations, slight movement in roof flexing due to people walking on it and slight movement in roof alignment due to settling. Fire Resistant Topcoat to BS 76 Part 3. Generous supply of Resin and Topcoat - The ratio of resin is 1.5kg and 0.6kg of Topcoat per square metre. You may also require glass bandage roll and acetone to complement your roofing kit. For help on installing your new fibreglass flat roof visit our Fibreglass roofing tips and tutorials page.

This was our first experience of GRP roofing. Most of the process went well - fixing OSB boards, bandaging edges and joins etc. HOWEVER the several videos I watched on YouTube all suggested that 20-30 mins should be expected for a mix of resin and catalyst, where I found (on a warm day at approx 25 deg) at 1% catalyst the working life was only 10-12 mins, which created a lot of difficulties (several rollers destroyed very quickly) - not sure if resin from other suppliers would give you more time? We also bought the 'tools' kit, this worked well EXCEPT that a 20 ml syringe is a 'must', as is a graduated measuring jug for mixing smaller amounts of resin. Also a 230mm roller for the main lengths of CSM matting. I thought the tools kit was a bit penny-pinching for not including these items. Also the description doesn't make it clear that Acetone is virtually ESSENTIAL if you want to be able to reuse your rollers and brushes. We didn't find a use for the 70mm consolidation roller, the larger one (140mm) was OK for the bandaging and everything. However, the end-result is very satisfying, would use and recommend GRP again.
