We've updated our DIY guides to reflect that 2 minutes of flushing is sufficient for the Zip filters, as 10 litres is a little more than necessary, and as you have said, quite time consuming.
Regarding the disposal of your old filter, we recommend placing it in your general waste bin, as it will contain contaminants and parasites which the filter has trapped.
Disposing of the filter ‘thoughtfully’ sure is confusing, so we've clarified this in our updated guide as well.
