“This is an excellent course for anyone who wants to get on with writing their first novel or short story. Harlen doesn't pull any punches, and much of what he communicates about the process of writing contradicts what you may have gleaned from other writers. With wit and insight, he encourages you to stop procrastinating with research, character development and other distractions. He makes a very strong case for 'character is plot/setting' and vice versa. And do not get bogged down in research - your own experiences are good enough to get started with.
I found myself nodding in agreement with comments such as 'empathy is not the same as sympathy' and other insightful pieces of advice.”
