“Not only had I not heard of Malorie Blackman before, but I'm not actually interested in writing for young adults specifically. However, I thought I'd give the course a whirl anyway, and I must say, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'd say that 95% of the advice and exercises contained within the course are useful to any writer - regardless of which age group their work is aimed at. I also feel that much of the advice also applies to forms of writing other than fiction, e.g. poetry, writing for film, TV, the theatre. For example, there are exercises such as 'taking a word for a walk', which I think would be incredibly useful for poets as well as for fiction writers. There's also lots of solid, practical advice on such things as plot and character development, world building, learning to show and not tell, and how - very importantly - to develop the skill of cutting out the 'flab' from one's stories, so that they remain interesting and engaging for the reader. And I think that's what impressed me most about the course: Ms Blackman always dives straight in and gets to the point without lots of superfluous waffle. She also delivers what she has to say clearly and with infectious enthusiasm. I can heartily recommend this course to anyone interested in any kind of creative writing - regardless of age, background or previous experience.”

“Brilliant! I'll be honest-i hadn't heard of Malorie Blackburn prior to this course. But this course was very informative and went more in depth than I anticipated. Loved her tips on how to practice your creative writing skills in particular. I now have one of her books to read, and I intend to read a lot of her YA books, as after listening to what she has to say, she clearly knows her stuff. Reading her books will assist me further in my path to becoming a writer. Great course!”
