“It's ok. But it's pretty expensive for the quality. I would expect the magnets to be much stronger. They're just barely strong enough to hold the fireboard on a vertical surface, and that's on 1/4 steel. It doesn't stay securely though, and that's especially the case on thinner steel. I'll be disassembling it and installing good magnets in it, but I shouldn't have to for $25.”
“I purchased from Home Depot an 8x3 inch, thin steel plate and have it sitting on the foldout next to my Kamoda Joe to secure my thermometers. The Fireboard magnetic base grabs the plate and hold the thermometer in place very well. I own three Fireboards and each are held tight in their own their own magnetic base.”
“Game changer for what before would have been a primitive pit requiring constant attention to run well. I set this up with a bbq guru blower on my patio offset smoker and with a basket and snake method I can run for 7+ hours without touching the pit and get sleep on those brisket nights.”
“I replaced my FireBoard I with a FireBoard II when they first came out. At the same time I bought a magnetic base. As time went by, the back of the base expanded away and the magnetic feature was no longer usable. I hope the new base is more durable. Honestly I don’t recall how long I have had the FireBoard II, but I was disappointed it was not more durable. The base is still useful enough I felt it was worth replacing.”
