“I have had the FireBoard Drive Blower 3 for 3 weeks and so far I have found it a great user-friendly tool to accurately control cooking temperatures on my Kamado Joe and produce great results with ease”
“Not a great first experience, frankly. The unit is not controlling temp at all! I just ran a long cook last night with a pork shoulder, set ambient to 225 F and internal to 190 F. The fan ramped to 100% and stayed there. I caught it 1.5 hours into the cook with the ambient now at 370F and rising. The fan was still running 100% and no notification had been sent of the over temp. I finally turned the fan completely off and let the grill coast through the night.
This morning I had to relight the fire and again set the fan to auto with a set point of 225. It ramped to 100% speed, overshot the set point and I again turned it off.
I’ve spoken with several friends who also own FireBoard 2 Drive units and they’ve never had this occur.
This is a new unit and fan that had never been out of the box prior to yesterday.
If it can’t be resolved, I’ll be returning the unit.”
“Everyone has raved about the Fireboard products. I assumed the Fireboard G3 drive blower was going to be the best possible blower you could buy to go along with the Fireboard 2. After purchasing everything as a bundle, I have found that this blower was designed poorly. There are so many air leaks when you have this attached via the adapters. None of the adapter options fit tight on the blower. The 1" ball valve adapter just loosely fits and allows air to come in around all the edges. None of the adapters that come with it seem to fit anything I have or that my friends have. The lack of adapters for specific grills is kind of a bust. If you buy this fan, you are more than likely going to need to fabricate your own solution for using it.
The way this fan attaches to anything is just really horribly designed. I am not impressed at all. Even if you find something that the blower will fit in as attended, the fit isn't going to be air tight.
After buying this as a bundle, my research found that the Fireboard drive blower isn't even the recommended blower to use with the Fireboard 2, according to the BBQ temperature controller community. I can see why. It sucks, and if I could return it, I absolutely would. I don't recommend.”
“The new one is superior to the old one. I have put a stop valve in front of it so it won`t backfire with ash and heated air. The hole who was taked for the old one fits perfect for the new 1" ball adapter. The new model is superior to the old one. I have installed a stop valve in front of it to prevent backfiring with ash and heated air. The hole that was used for the old model fits perfectly with the new 1-inch ball adapter.”
