It tastes like they tried to make some quirky and niche hot sauce that people can pull out and say they like just to be different. The spice is where you would expect it to be for the second hottest sauce in the season. The flavor however will not go well with anything, it’s too bitter and honestly doesn’t taste good. Doesn't really have a tongue burn, you'll mostly feel it in the back of your throat and your lips. I was definitely caught off guard by the strange earthy flavor but the more I have of it the more I love it. I'm a big fan of South-Asian cuisine and it went great in chickpea curry. Wouldn't say it's an everyday sauce but if you like real heat and want to try something unique this is worth a try. A new favorite.

I did the spoon test first and found this sauce to have the earthy dimensions others have stated. But based on the ingredients I found this paired well with my Indian curry. The heat level is intense, and I found that it burned for a few minutes after consumption. But this is not just a heat sauce. It has a very unique flavor. I can see it being difficult to pair with a variety of foods. With that said, I really like it and can’t wait to see what other foods I can use this with. Definitely a great sauce if you’re doing a challenge.

The heat is my kind of heat for sure. Hits hard and heavy then goes down to a medium simmer. Definitely a kicker, but doesn't over stay its welcome like some sauces. The craziest part though, the flavor. It initially hits you with a "bitter, earthy" shot, like fresh slightly dirty mushrooms or the smell or fresh bark even. Totally new, slightly unsettling at first, but loving the new direction in this sauce. After that, you get the tasty notes of the featured "secret pepper" recipe and it's an old friend there to drag you into the depths of spice hell. But like I mentioned before, it chills out after a quick attack and becomes your medium to hot friend as it leaves your palate. Totally amazing experience. Not sure what I'd use it on but I'm looking to new ideas for it

Usually I do a spoon test for flavor. It was a strange one. But I was optimistic. Then I did a full meal test. No sir. Its overpowering, doesn't accent anything well. It's still forgiving in the extreme heat. You get the heat, only temporary, but at the cost of it tasting like shit. This is a perfect sauce, but it tastes like garbage. Earthy notes? No. It tastes like dirt and then lovely peppers.

This is a sauce with real character. I read a comment elsewhere saying that this sauce was gross, so I paid attention to this one and I gotta say I found the flavor to be incredible, in a good way. If you are well versed in Ethiopian or Indian cooking then you will find the zesty and aromatic qualities to be familiar, but not so specific that it wouldn't pair well with anything beyond those cuisines. There is some essential spice there I can't quite put my finger on but is part of the gd-craveable-gotta-have-it savory profile in some of the best of those regional dishes, and then there's the peppers...outstanding! Pepper forward and not for the meek in regards to the heat (serious warning, you won't be able to fully appreciate this sauce without the capacity to handle the heat of say, eating a whole raw habanero). This sauce has a consistency somewhere between a traditional hot sauce and a curry paste in thickness, and while this is often a turn off for me in what is marketed as a hot sauce because thickening agents and oils that can dull the flavors if overused, the hing, probably due to the aromatic elements of the asafoetida and turmeric, really does its job while complementing the rest of the ingredients very well. The result is a truly delicious and wild condiment that you can use as a piquant relish in small dabs or as an all purpose sauce, if you have a high enough heat tolerance. All around recommend for the hot sauce veterans and adventurous newcomers alike.

Just got this sauce in my subscription box. It's... hot. Very hot. "I chugged some milk and still had to leave my mouth open for like 5min" hot. Now, I know some of you will try it and go, "Eh, that's nothing" and that's fine. It was a little more than I prefer in my regular hot sauce munching. So, if you're one who seeks out the super-hot, this is for you. I must say, before my mouth spontaneously combusted, I did thoroughly enjoy the complex, bright flavors of the sauce. I thought it tasted like it had black pepper in there, even though it doesn't. That was the sort of lingering taste I had as the fire finally started to cool. I wish either my tolerance for spice was higher or this sauce was just a little less spicy overall. I feel I would genuinely love it if it were in my tolerance range. But I don't want to ding a hot sauce for being hot, hence, 4 stars.
