I ordered a bespoke sized Dynaform Maximus Bariatric Mattress, to fit a standard size UK double bed (190cm x 135cm x 15cm) for use at home. The lead time was supposed to be 10 working days, or about a fortnight in normal money, but the mattress arrived from the manufacturer well under schedule, in about a week. At 15cm deep, the mattress itself is not quite as deep as a normal domestic mattress, and it weighs considerably less too. The weight belies the real structural strength of this mattress, and it is much stronger than its weight may lead you to believe... It doesn't come vacuum packed like modern foam mattresses, because it's not made out of that type of foam; instead it comes folded in half in a large cardboard box. This means it does not need to be laid-out for several hours/days for it to resume normal shape, and it's literally ready to go straight out of the box. The manufacturers had made it perfectly, and it fits exactly onto my metal bed frame, sliding into the mattress-well of the frame, with little room to spare, meaning it was a perfect fit, and not likely to move around on the bed. The mattress itself is very firm, probably firmer than most people are used to, although its top layer of foam is a softer, memory foam type of affair for some added comfort... this firmness is by design, as it gives extra support to the user's body, whilst giving strength to the mattress itself. I've slept on mattresses like this before in hospitals, so I knew beforehand how firm they are, which is why I ordered an 8cm thick memory foam mattress topper from Amazon at the same time... This put the mattress at 23cm thick, which is closer to a more normal mattress depth than the 15cm it came as (which is why I didn't ask for it to be made thicker when ordering a bespoke size). The added memory foam layer provided by the mattress topper makes this mattress very comfortable indeed, without taking away from the firm support that it provides by design. I'm only in the first week of ownership, and already, I can't begin to explain how much improved my quality of life is for having this mattress. Because of the amount of time in our lives that we spend in bed, it really cannot be overstated how vitally important a good mattress is to improve or maintain a decent quality of life. I think, with this mattress at home, I have finally found such an improvement... If you're of a heavy build, and suffer with body pains and aches etc, and find your current mattress actually aggravates that pain, then maybe, like me, you've found your answer here, with this specialist mattress.
