Read MGOC Spares Reviews

Developed exclusively for MGOC Spares, Hightech condensers from
Retronics are designed and assembled in the UK using best quality components. Featuring premium grade metallised film capacitors, specifically designed for pulse applications to suppress the spark from the points faster and with greater consistency and reliability than the original Lucas design which uses an electrolytic approach, prone to expansion from temperature changes and susceptible to vibration giving rise to inconsistent suppression and a short service life. Featuring all copper connections and high strand copper wire sheathed in silicone for vibration dampening, each unit is hand soldered, to provide excellent, long-term conductivity. For those owners that use standard mechanical points for ignition timing, our exclusive high-tech condenser will keep you firing on all cylinders!

Offered under part numbers GSC2111Q for 25D, 23D, 22D & DM6 distributors (MGA, MGC, V8, MGB & Midget up to 1974) and GSC2118Q for 45D, 43D & 59D distributors (Rubber Bumper MGB & Midget),

Key Features:
- UK design & manufacture, each condenser is hand made using best quality, high specification components.
- High Quality Modern Technology Capacitor, specifically designed for pulse applications and made by a specialist company. Each capacitor is housed in a self-extinguishing resin casing.
- Correct Capacitor Value is vital! Too low & your points will quickly pit, too high & you will lose spark at the plug.
- Capacitor Type, when suppressing a spark, the energy needs to be moved away very quickly. A Retronics Condenser is able to move energy away quicker than a traditional electrolytic capacitor.
- Connections:
- Use copper for connections & high strand count copper wire sheathed in heat proof silicone for superior conductivity & vibration damping.
- beryllium copper crinkle washer is supplied (to replace the original split washer) to provide maximum conductivity whilst still providing anti-back-out function.
- All connections are hand soldered, giving excellent conduction over the capacitor's entire life.

Installed in my 1977 MGB Tourer GHN5. Distributor Lucas 45D4. I installed this condenser after a failure of a Lucas type condenser that prevented the engine from starting. After 10 weeks of making all sorts of adjustments to the carburetters and ignition timing I only found the problem by bridging the distributor with a spare similar type condenser, using a couple of wires with crocodile clips on each of their ends, after which the engine started straight away. I then installed the spare condenser into the distributor and I found that after a short time the contacts were no longer making. On inspection of the contactor breaker points I found that a pip had developed on the surface of one the points. Although I could clean up the points with a screw driver blade and get them to make so that the engine would run again I decided to install the Retronics RC45 condenser that I had recently purchased. I had no problems fitting this into the distributor except unfortunately the screw provided to secure the condenser to the base plate was too large (0.155" dia. instead of 0.134 dia.) so I had to use the old one. Afterwards the engine started and ran fine. I'm hoping the new condenser will last a very long time being far more rugged than the previous ones that were installed (thicker wiring, soldered joints, and better condenser, etc.).

Installed in a Triumph 2500. 45D6 Distributor. Just did a 3000km tour from Sydney, Australia around Tasmania return. Car has never run better. My last condensor from a former British manufactuer starting with an L only managed to get me around 10km before failing.
