About Mike's Dive Store:

Mike’s London Dive Store may have been established for more than thirty years but its history goes back much further than that. It’s founder, big Mike Calder, was the super-salesman at a dive store in Fulham Palace Road in West London. A local lad who was larger in life than in so many ways, he was so successful at serving divers with the equipment that suited their needs best that people beat a path to his door from all over the country.

Mike was a diver and he believed that if his customers were satisfied they’d return. He took the long view. He was eventually so successful that other dive shop owners even protested he was distorting the market.

It was inevitable that he would set up in business for himself and with the help of a local friend started selling dive equipment from a warehouse at Richmond’s waterside. Eventually he moved the business to the more accessible premises it is in today.

Mike was a giant of the UK’s diving industry in many more ways than one and all who knew him were shocked when he was suddenly taken from us long before his time, in 2009.

Still in his early teens, Scuba Steve started diving in the Sinai in 1989, in the days when Red Sea liveaboard operations were truly pioneering. He accompanied skipper Jan Ellingsen on Colona IV on a 1200 nautical mile trip down to the Sudan and learned to dive on the way. A few exciting encounters with grey reef sharks and he was hooked.

He worked alongside Mike and purchased Mike’s Dive Store when it became available. Mike’s son chose to sell to Steve because he could see that Steve had the same passion as his dad for scuba diving and was confident that he would carry on the tradition of good service and advice from a position of a wealth of knowledge very much as his dad had done.

Mike’s Dive Store is not about shifting boxes of product but having the patience to understand the particular needs and wishes of every one of its individual customers. That’s you!

There are very many aspects to the underwater world and Steve has seen most of them. He instils in his staff this philosophy to only sell the right tools for the job and many of the currently regular customers will tell you that it was Mike sold them their first set of diving equipment. Mike may have passed away but Mike’s Dive Store is alive and well, and Scuba Steve is carrying on the traditions that Mike established for it.

I only bought this snorkel out of curiosity and as a spare. The snorkel is more rigid than I imagined, but does bends when folded. I imagined a lot more sloppy but it isn't which is great. It's also longer than my other Cressi snorkel which is a plus. It's also quite a basic style, which I love, as I prefer a standard snorkel to semi or dry snorkel. It's also sitting soft in my mouth. Was pleasantly surprised and really happy with my purchase.

Looks good haven’t had chance to use it yet but has adjustable mouth piece which is a good touch. I bought it as a backup.

I purchased the yellow one for maximum visibility. Being very pliable it's easy to pocket or pack. It was comfortable and practical during a first work-out from a Turkish gulet last week. Gladly recommend this great snorkel at a fair price, and very quick delivery. Thanks Mikes's Dive Store.

bought two of these for the kids for holiday as they are always complaining theirs are too hard in their mouths. these are nice and soft, perfect for my little precious darlings who can obviously take no discomfort whatsoever :-) i also use one for free diving so suitable for adults too!

I bought two of these snorkels for a snorkelling trip to Maldives, one for myself and one for a friend. I have snorkelled for about 50 years, both at the surface and diving down I bought the first one as a Christmas present for my friend and was then so jealous when I saw it I bought one from Mike's for myself, replacing an old faithful with about 20 year's use in it. Both Apneas were yellow and I wonder why anyone would buy a different colour given the visibility yellow offers to boats and jet skis (yugh!). My friend's snorkel was 'acquired' by his wife who loved it - my friend continued to use his old one which has a valve, which is why I bought him an Apnea. My friend's wife is not a very experienced snorkeller and the fact that she took to the Apnea immediately and was so comfortable with it speaks volumes. My experience, however, was that the Apnea is slightly shorter than my old one and when I had to continually look over my shoulder for my friends I found it often flooded, occasionally when I didn't have the breath in me to blow it out, so I had to remove the mouthpiece, take a breath and blow out before continuing. I found this irritating and reverted to my old snorkel, with which I had no issues. Hence the 4* rating. My friend's wife would score it as a 5.
