My daughter bought 3 "mystery" pullets as a surprise for my birthday in November. I had lost my favorite hen and was feeling bad. In the batch there was an Ayam Cemani. They were very healthy but the Cemani was a bit flighty. She still is and a is a silly chicken. She is the first to do anything and tried to take on the big chickens but decided to rund, instead. I call her Lucy and joke that she has ADHD. She doesn't like to be picked up but is very quiet when I do catch her. She hasn't started laying yet but I don't care, I enjoy her antics. She is a clown.

Thank you for the wonderful review! It sounds like your Lucy has brought some much-needed joy and laughter back into your flock. These birds definitely have big personalities, and it’s so fun to hear how adventurous and quirky she is for you! She may keep you on your toes, but it’s clear she’s found a wonderful home where she’s loved just as she is. Thank you for sharing her story with us—we hope Lucy continues to entertain you with her antics for years to come!

We ordered 5 chicks in June including 2 ayams. Within a few weeks one developed a limp, so we separated her. The other one died suddenly for seemingly no reason at a few months old. The limping chick (now a pullet) never got better. We took her to the vet and she had some sort of aggressive bone eating arthritis that was terminal. She just died last week. The vet told us that it can cause a sudden death and that that was likely what happened to the other bird. I contacted MPC about it after the vet trip. Told them everything, sent them vet reports, etc. They basically just dug their heels in and said it we had some disease in our flock and that the 2 chicks were healthy. We haven’t had any other dead birds - just the 2 ayams, so I suspect we had a bad batch. I’ve spent close to $1000 with MPC over the past 2 years and won’t be spending anymore with them. Their attitude towards me in the emails felt flippant and patronizing. Buyer beware.

We’re truly sorry for the loss of your Ayam Cemani chicks. We understand how heartbreaking it is to lose a beloved member of your flock, and we deeply empathize with the frustration and sadness this has caused. After reviewing the veterinary records you provided, we understand that the diagnosis was "potential septic arthritis," a condition caused by a bacterial infection. The report further states that Mycoplasma was identified as the likely bacteria behind the illness and symptoms. We have not received similar reports from other customers and take every measure to ensure that the chicks we ship are healthy. Our chicks are hatched and shipped from a sterilized facility that is carefully monitored by a veterinarian and regularly inspected for proper biosecurity practices. This is part of our commitment to providing the healthiest chicks possible to our customers. To ensure the health of the birds we ship, we participate in the National Poultry Improvement Plan (NPIP.) The diseases covered by the NPIP are avian influenza (fowl plague) and those produced by S. pullorum (pullorum disease), S. gallinarum (fowl typhoid), S. enterica var. enteritidis, Mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG, chronic respiratory disease, and infectious sinusitis in turkeys), M. synoviae (MS, infectious synovitis), and M. meleagridis (MM, day-old airsacculitis). We also participate in the optional programs offered through NPIP and are “U.S. Salmonella Monitored” and “U.S. Sanitation Monitored”. We’re sorry if our communication left you feeling unheard or unsupported. That was never our intention. Your long-term loyalty as a customer means a great deal to us, and we deeply regret that this experience has caused you to feel otherwise. If you have any additional concerns or questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

We are truly sorry to hear about the loss of your chicks during shipping. While we're glad we could provide a refund, we understand it doesn't replace the rare chicks you were expecting. We're constantly working to improve our shipping processes for the safe arrival of all our feathered friends. Your feedback is important, and we'll use it to refine our services. If you have any further concerns, please reach out to us.
