We bought two chicks, but one didn't make it. That bummed me out. (They did give me a refund). But the one who made it, we named Sweetie, because after 12 years of chickens, she's the sweetest one we have ever had. She sits on our shoulder like a parrot. She never pecks us. She coos, and she rubs her face on our hands and our leg. As a chick, she thought we would keep her safe (she was nearly dead last on the pecking order and still is.) But she is the SWEETEST little thing alive, which is helpful when people come over and want to meet her. That being said, she has been fairly hardy and lays an egg or two or sometimes three each week (small cream eggs.) Everyone wants to know if we painted her beak and comb. hahaha.

Although we are sorry about the baby that didn't make it. We are very excited to hear this update on Sweetie. She may be at the bottom of the pecking order, but sounds like she is quite an ambassador for up and coming chicken owners.

Just beautiful. She's sweet and likes to be held. The feathers are shimmery black. Perfectly healthy, very glad we got an Ayam!

We dreamed of Ayam Cemani for years and were overjoyed to see them available at MPC! Our two female chicks are a bit feisty but mellowed as they reached maturity. They are the best perchers - they love to jump and perch in surprising places. They started laying at six months, even though they look small. They are lean and lovely, not fat hens, but friendly and laying delicious small eggs. The black skin is amazing.
