My favorite chicken of all time! Pip was a great bird. She free-ranged only because she refused to be in the pen with the others. She layed everyday and then foraged and did whatever she wanted. I liked her spirit!

Two or three years ago MyPetChicken graced me with two wonderful Australorp hens, Evie and Jack, very sweet birds, Evie enjoys hitching a ride on the scratch bucket every morning, certainly not shy with letting me handle her, Jack is similar but not as trusting as to hitch a ride. They both sit at the bottom of the pecking order as a result of such a gentle nature. Their feathers are a beautiful black with a green and purple sheen, out of all my birds Jack is the model image of them all. They lay nice, soft brown eggs, Evie tends to lay more elongated eggs, while Jack keeps her eggs more natural looking, but good in size. Consistently they lay, I will add. I recommend this bird to first-time chicken people.
