“My cream legbars are now 3 years old. As small chicks they ran when the others walked and flapped those tiny wings to fly when the others napped. As mature hens, they are very chill, calm and quiet. Since I live close to my neighbors, quiet hens are wonderful. These chickens get along well with the mixed flock, never cause problems like the bantam mottled cochin hens do (such a surprise as cochins are usually so chill) and their eggs are absolutely beautiful. They are first at the feeder when I refill and love foraging. I have great nests but they like laying in the large pots under the dwarf citrus the best. Highly recommend.”
Thank you for sharing such a thoughtful review of your Cream Legbars. It is wonderful to hear how they have grown from energetic chicks into calm and steady hens that fit so well in your mixed flock. Their quiet nature truly makes them a great choice for close neighborhoods, and those beautiful eggs are always such a treat. We love that they have chosen their own special spot under your citrus pots—it sounds like the perfect place for them! Your experience highlights so well why Cream Legbars are such a rewarding breed to keep.
“My Pet Chicken does a great job. So my cautions are not about how they do things, but rather to share my experience with Cream Legbar chicks. This isn't my first time raising chicks, so I can say that these Cream Legbar babies are unlike the Dominique, Cochin, Americana chicks, or the Welsummer, Silver Laced Wyandot, and Red Comet pullets. These girls are maturing so fast that going in to their third week I've had to move them to an outdoor setup because they are so active, large, strong and well feathered. They are very skittish and reactive--it's like a mosh pit in the brooder! They don't walk, they run and fly. They fly out of the brooder if you aren't more careful than I've ever had to be. I think they will mature into really smart, resourceful, friendly hens. But as chicks, they are beyond a handful. Going into week four their nervous systems are settling down a bit, but they are still a wriggly screechy handful who love to fly. If you're hoping for lot of peaceful snuggle time or you have small kids who will want to play with the chicks, this breed may not be quite the right fit. Not recommended for first time chick handlers, in my experience with them.”
Thank you for such a fun and honest review of your Cream Legbars. You’ve described them perfectly—fast, feathered, and full of personality! They may keep you on your toes as chicks, but that same energy makes them smart, resourceful hens later on. For anyone wanting calm, snuggly babies, breeds like Cochins or Buff Orpingtons might be a better fit but those beautiful blue eggs are Cream Legbar all the way! We’re so glad yours are thriving and can’t wait for you to enjoy all the charm they’ll bring to your flock.
Thank you for your lovely review, Linda! We’re overjoyed to hear that your Cream Legbar chicks have arrived and are stealing your heart. Their adorable nature is truly special, and we can't wait for you to experience all the joy they will bring to your flock!
“Highly underrated breed for folks keeping chickens as pets. So well mannered and docile in a mixed flock. We have owned 2 so far, and both we incredible with children, with one enjoying the attention and becoming a full lap chicken. And the blue eggs brighten up the basket.”
Thank you for sharing your experience! Cream Legbars really are a hidden gem! it's wonderful to hear how well-mannered and friendly yours have been, especially with children. A lap chicken that also lays beautiful blue eggs? Always a keeper!
We love that you’ve had such a great experience with this breed, and we couldn’t agree more—they deserve more recognition! Thanks for choosing My Pet Chicken, and happy egg collecting!
