“She is such a tiny lil chipmunk! I can see a flightiness and alertness to her temperament. Her coloring around her eyes is like no other chicks I’ve had before. Can’t wait to see what she looks like all grown up!”
“I love my little Cream Legbar, but she was our slowest to start laying and still isn't consistent at 9 months old. When she lays, her eggs are a very nice, pure light blue that look great in the egg basket. She is friendly and easy to pick up, though also feisty and suspicious. Every now and then she'll attack me if I do something to startle her, but I just pick her up and make her settle down :)”
“Kindest bird I’ve owned. She is my cheapest egg layer. Lays eggs consistently, all year, and twice as long compared to all other breeds I’ve owned. Still lays through the winter without a light. I have a weed season and my other chickens stop laying when they are fed with nothing but weeds, but she keeps on laying. Forages great without destroying the garden. All my other birds make the garden disappear. You can’t even tell she lives in the garden by how delicate she is with her fancy grazing.. I call her my end of the world bird. I have 1/3 acre so plenty of room to graze but I bet she’d still lay consistently with minimal grazing area without supplemental feed.
The problem with her, is her ability to fly and escape. She loves her freedom and if she doesn’t have it, she will get it. She can jump out and fly out of an 8’ enclosure. She will escape just to run up the hill then run and fly down. Then manages to find her way back in and out herself to bed. I’ve almost had to give her away because I can’t keep her in my yard and the neighbors don’t appreciate their mulch moved to their grass.”
It must be quite disappointing, waiting on eggs this long. Unfortunately, some chickens will start laying at a later age when maturing when days are short. Hopefully, those beautiful blue eggs will be worth it! Here is a some information on when you can expect your hens to lay:

“Our girl Monkey is about 9 weeks old and is the cutest little thing. She's both fiercely independent *and* extremely friendly (jumps right up onto my shoulder and hunkers down for a nap, but also loves doing her own thing!), and is also quite the lap chicken. We'll definitely be adding another to our flock in the spring. Fantastic breed and blue eggs - what more could you ask for?”
“I have 2 cream legbars from MPC, one from 2019, the other from 2020. Ginger and Pecan are stunning birds and lay beautiful blue eggs. Both are quite quirky and have unique personalities. Pecan prefers to lay her eggs anywhere other than the coop- her favorite spot is inside my washing machine. She will fly over the fence and yell until someone lets her in (and puts a soft towel in the washing machine) so she can lay her egg. She is small, but lays a large egg nearly daily. Both are very watchful and alert and excel at alerting to predators when free ranging. A fun breed and I definitely recommend having a couple.”
“She's about 10 weeks now and so far, so good. She is one of the more friendly pullets in my mixed flock of five. She comes running when she sees me, will jump on my lap/shoulders, and doesn't mind being picked up. Her crest looks great and people always comment on how cool she looks!”
“Let me start by saying I am very happy with our order of 5 chicks from MPC. We received our tiny chicks in April and now by October they are all healthy girls laying wonderful eggs.
Our cream legbar has always been my favorite - despite being on the smaller size and generally very calm, she is brave and always challenges our marans girl who's the top of the pecking order. She's not aggressive at all though and is very calm with us, she's also very friendly with my toddler and lets her pick her up or feed her by hand. We couldn't be happier.”
