Hatching Eggs: Fun & Funky (a.k.a. chickens of Instagram), Hen Haven Location Reviews

4.3 Rating 42 Reviews
If I could give zero stars on the hatching eggs I would. I have ordered chicks from my pet chicken for years now, I’ve also ordered eggs elsewhere and incubated them with a rough 40% hatch rate. I’ve never complained about my hatch rate because I know the chance you take with shipped eggs. That being said my first order arrived with broken eggs (never had that happen before, and it was the bottom layer of eggs that were cracked) figured no need to say anything I received extras and that’s what they’re for. By day 7 it was obvious there was zero development in my remaining eggs (28 eggs ordered, received 4 extras, 3 broken upon arrival) by day 14 one started leaking so threw it away sent an email with videos of the zero development to my pet chicken and was told to keep them in the incubator until at least day 25, Surprise surprise day 25 rolls around no chicks because obviously there was zero development. I was then told I could order a new batch at a discounted rate, me being stupid agreed and guess what?!?! The next order showed up with broken eggs all on the bottom row and now at day 14 I have 1 egg that has some blood veins and no movement and the others have zero signs of development. Again I know ordering shipped eggs is a huge gamble but this is ridiculous. Out of 64 eggs and hundreds of dollars I have 1 eggs that is barely hanging on! Please do better with packing shipped eggs!! In the meantime anyone reading this buy hatching eggs from somewhere else.

We’re so sorry that your experience with both shipments of hatching eggs was so frustrating and disappointing. We know how disheartening a poor hatch can be, especially when you’re doing everything right on your end. While hatch rates can be affected by a number of variables outside our control - especially during shipping - we completely understand how upsetting and discouraging this must have been for you. We truly appreciate your honest feedback. It helps us identify where we can do better, particularly when it comes to packing and protecting eggs for transit. Your experience has been shared with our fulfillment team, and we are actively exploring ways to improve our packing methods for even greater protection. Most of all, we're really glad we had the chance to connect with you directly after your review and work together on a resolution that felt fair. Thank you for giving us that opportunity. We value your passion for raising chicks, and we’re committed to earning back your trust.

The eggs were packed very securely in the carton. Two out of the seven hatched but shipping could’ve damaged them and/or incubator issues. I don’t know. It’s my first time hatching eggs that have been shipped to me.

Thank you for the review, Julie. Shipping can lower the hatch rate and nature can be tricky. No hatching egg supplier can promise any particular egg will hatch, especially since the shipment handling and incubating is completely outside of our control. While a 50% hatch rate is generally considered a success, even for commercial hatcheries, we realize low hatch rates can be very frustrating. We hope you will get the itch to incubate again and when you do, reach out to us for some special tips to help your hatch rate and your experience! By the way, that little chick is absolutely too cute!

I am obsessed with my new fun and funky chicks. I can’t wait to see what they end up looking like. I felt like it took a long time for delivery and wonder if that’s why only 7 hatched out of 15. But I am still over all happy.

Thank you so much for sharing your excitement! Hatching rates on shipped eggs is usually around 50% but with your 7 of 13, you had a 54% hatch! We understand that the delivery time can be a concern, but we ship the eggs fresh and they have up to 10 days before viability is a concern. We're glad to know you're overall happy with your experience! If you have any questions or need assistance as you raise your new flock, we're here to help.

I ordered 6 of the Fun and funky eggs and received quite a few more than I originally ordered. We did end up having t he number of eggs we order plus a few hatch! I absolutely have had an amazing experience ordering from MPC! Eggs came packed in foam with layers in between each layer of eggs. I even had to message customer service a couple times with questions and were happy to help answer them! I will be ordering again!

I ordered 12 and received 15. Of those 4 were not fertile. In the end, 7 babies hatched from various colored eggs and all managed to be naked necks and seem to be healthy! We are very excited. It’s still hard to tell but we might have 2 frizzles in the bunch. I’m giving 4 stars because nature didn’t favor those 4 eggs and because all of them are naked necks (I was hoping for a variety).

Thank you Nicole for providing this thoughtful review, we truly appreciate the feedback! The Fun & Funky Bunch eggs are packaged to contain a minimum of 3 different varieties! If you choose this bunch again, please indicate in the "order notes" field during checkout that you would prefer not to have Naked Necks and we will do our best to remove them from your order. We hope you are enjoying your little ones!

Ordered 6 Fun and Funky eggs in May 2019. I was sent 8 eggs. One had a very small crack in it so I incubated 7 of the eggs in my Brinsea incubator. Only one egg out of the 7 hatched!! I believe she is a bantam Easter egger. She hatched out of a tiny white egg, but she looks like an Easter egger and she lays a tiny blue egg. She is the cutest and we love her!! But for only 1 egg out of 7 to hatch is a pretty terrible hatch rate. At least we got a hen! We cracked open the remaining eggs (after giving them a few extra days to hatch) and none of them were fertile.

I have been on pins and needles for more than 3 weeks (since ordering pretty much). And after 22 days we have sucessfully hatched 3 of our 6 FF eggs! one we lost pretty early and the other 2 I’m going to let sit one more day in hopes they’re just late bloomers. Truthfully, I’m just so satisfied with this hatch, especially being our first. Our family hatched 2 of the 3 most desired breeds. 10/10 recommend. We also ordered 1 SCEL (hatched) and 1 Olive egger(hatched). Neither barred rock made it all the way but we are happy chick tenders now

Mine all hatched! I had a 100% success rate! I ordered 2 olive eggers, 1 F&F, and assorted. I received an extra assorted egg so a total of 7 eggs. 6 of which hatched! And I live in New York! I received mine dead smack in the middle of cold front. My deliver man threw my package, too! The process was amazing and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. My kids learned so much!

Deana, it is incredible that all of your eggs hatched and that you had a 100% success rate! To have six of them successfully hatch, especially during a cold front in New York, is truly impressive! We're sorry to hear about the rough handling of your package by the delivery person, but we're glad it didn't dampen your enthusiasm. It's heartwarming to know that the hatching process was amazing for you and that your kids had such a fantastic learning experience.
