Baby Chicks: Lavender Orpington Female Reviews

4.6 Rating 71 Reviews
We got 2 female lavenders in April of 2020. They are 10 months old and they have grey feathers , in the daylight you can see a some purple. The one is named Allie and is the sweetest bird of the whole flock. She follows me everywhere and when I say her name she comes over to me. She also will sit on my lap and is very gentle when taking food out of my hand. Also is very gentle to the other girls in the flock, even thought she is the second biggest. The biggest is a Buff Orpington-also very friendly. The other lavender named Lily, supposed to be a female. But she just started growing Spurs. But doesn’t have any other rooster traits. She is also sweet and friendly.

Our Lavender Orpington, is our biggest hen. She best layer and does great foraging. She is not the friendliest in our flock however as others have suggested. This maybe due to the fact thought that she came in with one other chick, that passed away, she was integrated safely into the new flock but has always been a bit scared and flighty. Now the other hens pretty much leave her alone as she towers over everyone else. Girl loves to eat!

I ordered one lavender Orpington in my order of 5 chicks from MPC. Philippa is gorgeous and very sweet. She lets me pick her up and will sit on my lap. We took a family photo with our pets and Philippa was better behaved than our dog and rabbits. She is in the middle of the pecking order and gets along with everyone.

I purchased 3 Lavender Orpington day old chicks and they arrived quickly and were packaged well. They all seemed healthy enough at first but one was smaller than the others and after a couple of days that chick went downhill quickly. I contacted My Pet Chicken and they were quick to respond and provide suggestions to help her which I followed but she just failed to thrive and didn't make it and they were quick to refund me for her. The other 2 chicks have been healthy and vigorous and growing like weeds. They are about 5 weeks now and their sweet personalities are really showing. They adore each other and when I move them out of their brooder one at a time to transfer them to a large box while I clean their brooder, they scream until they are reunited. That is the only time we hear anything other than happy little chirpy noises from them. When I reach into their brooder to move things or add food or grit they will run over and want to be pet and if I'm petting one of them the other will lightly peck my hand to get me to pet her too...it is adorable! Whenever I go into the room where their brooder is they come out if they were under their heater and come over to look at me and interact, they are very sociable and seem drawn to human interaction. These are the first chickens I've owned of my own although I was raised around them, and these are the first chickens my kids have been around and they are really perfect for families with children. My kids' noisiness and running around doesn't seem to scare or ruffle them at all and they just genuinely seem to enjoy being around people of any age. We live in the city but are moving to a large property in the country that was our vacation cabin but will be a full time home soon, so for now we needed a quiet easily contained chicken for our city house and these girls seem to fit the bill. They are sweet and gentle and very friendly and they are very quiet so far as long as they are together. I can't recommend this breed enough especially for an urban family chicken.

What a wonderful the Lavender Orpington is! My Ducky is beautiful and friendly. She eats peanuts out of my hand and comes into the house to ask for food. She is cheeky. I am so impressed by her size and beauty.

I ordered female Lavender & Buff Orpingtons and Australorps- the chicks arrived exactly when expected; they were safely packed into a comfy & well- ventilated cardboard carrier. They are wonderfully healthy, happy & so beautiful! The Lavenders are just stunning! Our girls are 8 weeks old now, and are well bonded to us & to each other- they are fantastic! Thank you SO much to everyone at My Pet Chicken!!!

My Violet was hatched and shipped May5th and just started laying eggs 3 weeks ago. She is absolutely stunning! Far prettier than the chicken on the profile. And she is huge!! But then again, she was a very large chick and developed so quickly, she did not look like a pullet. I thought I had a roo on my hands for awhile. She was very terrified of me for a long time, but was so jealous of the attention my tame girls were getting, that she eventually warmed up to me. Now she is very friendly and loves to be picked up and petted. I just adore her!
