“I don't think this is an appropriate product to sell with baby chicks. The packet makes 256 GALLONS of electrolyte water, and most people will be giving their chicks a quart or gallon of water at a time. There are no instructions for how much powder to add to smaller amounts of water, and it would be really easy for a customer to way overdose their babies. The most reasonable way I can think to use it is to add 1/2 ounce to a quart of water for a stock solution, and then add 1/4 ounce (1.5 teaspoons or 1/2 tablespoon) of that solution to a quart of water. That still requires weighing out 1/2 ounce powder to be sure the dosing is correct. This product should at least come with a warning and detailed instructions to be sure customers know how to use it without making a barrel at a time.”
We appreciate your feedback and are sorry to hear that measuring out the correct amount of this vitamin packet was difficult for you. We offer this as a cost effective option for a wide range of flock size needs. Unfortunately, the manufacturer does not recommend smaller dosage options. As we describe in this products description, you can mix one 4-ounce pack into 2 gallons of water to make a stock solution. The stock mixture can then be easily dosed by mixing 2 tablespoons of the stock mixture into 1 gallon of plain water. (Or mix 1/4 T of stock solution per quart of plain water.)
“Fortunately, we did not have to use any of the BVS since the chicks were very hardy on arrival. However, this will make SO much and we are excited to use it this summer when the heat is oppressive for our adult flock!”
Thank you for taking the time to review our BVS Vitamin and Electrolyes! They are great for baby chicks and can also be used for more mature flock members during times of extreme or stressful conditions. They are a great addition to any flock keeper's first aid kit!
