“Very Healthy birds bought 10 birds. Very curious about everything. A couple delinquents finding trouble were they Can They have a monkey see monkey do mentality with each other. Starting to lay eggs purchased them in September. Eggs are very small. My wife says that’s normal when they first start laying. Hoping that’s true”
Thank you for your review! It sounds like you have a lively and adventurous flock—chickens definitely have a way of getting into mischief, especially when they learn from each other!
Your wife is absolutely right—small eggs are completely normal when hens first start laying. As they mature, their eggs will gradually increase in size. Over the next few weeks, you should start seeing larger and more consistent eggs.
We’re so glad to hear your birds are happy and healthy, and we appreciate you choosing My Pet Chicken.
“Our Marigold (Goldie) New Hampshire Red is one loud gal! She seems to constantly be making noise, eats every chance she gets, and loves to incessantly forage and explore the yard in search of bugs. She is friendly enough to the point of being handled and nearby and doesn't pick on anyone, but not overly affectionate like other breeds on my mixed flock. Excellent cold and heat tolerance, consistent layer of brown/pink bloom eggs, one of the largest birds in my flock and fairly friendly (no agression whatsoever, just not as loving as others). If you're looking for a breed that's a great, consistent layer with no aggression I'd recommend New Hampshires. If a lap hen that follows you around is your goal I'd try another breed.”
New Hampshire Reds are known to be wonderful foragers and are most happy when satisifying their curiosity! Oh, and as you have found out - they LOVE to talk! Though they are curious by nature, they can be raised to be somewhat affectionate when handled as young birds. It is not really that they don't want to cuddle, they just have a lot to explore! We hope you and Goldie have many happy years together!
We are happy to hear that your little red is doing well and is already displaying her beauty as she grows! We are confident she will be a great addition to your flock! Please let us know if we can help with any questions about her or your other flock members - we are happy to do so.
“Arrived to the tip of the West Coast of Washington quick. All chicks were healthy and very active. I forgot my early years of raising chicks and the worst part of the chore. Cleaning the crusties off the chicks the first week or so. Got to stay on top of that chore. I picked the breed cause of their loving, gentle personality, along with their large egg laying. I most strongly recommend this breed. They are hard to find on the West Coast.”

We're glad to hear that your order arrived quickly and that all the chicks were healthy and active. We understand that raising chicks can sometimes be a challenging task, especially with pasty butt.
