Baby Chicks: New Hampshire Red Female Reviews

4.8 Rating 14 Reviews
I wish I could give this hatchery a 4 and 1/2 stars. I am overall a very satisfied customer! 4 months later & all 20 of my chickens are alive & healthy! I had only 2 issues: 1st the chicks all arrived with diarrhea 2nd I order 20 hens but 1 is a rooster (I already have a rooster & now he’s cruel to the new baby rooster)

I love New Hampshire Red hens. They are super friendly and are good layers. Plus they are a really attractive breed with bright chestnut coloring. In the roosters, the hackles are especially glossy and sometimes get a golden highlight. For me, they lay consistently, even in the winter. I get about 5 eggs a week/hen, although that can drop down to 2-4 in deep winter. (Note: our hens free range from about 7 am until about 4 pm--longer in the summer. We live in an urban setting). These are larger birds that take up a lot of space, so they are not the best choice for small coops or tight space restrictions. But they are super lovable, friendly, sweet tempered chickens. Even the roos are sweet. And they are consistently good layers, which I appreciate. Our chickens are pets, but I like my eggs!

The two NHR's of the flock are sweet girls. They just started laying, are very friendly, and very obeying. i don't have to chase them down when it's time to return to the run after free ranging. They just know to go there whithout causing a ruckus. Love 'em! Highly recommended.

I purchased 15 Delawares and 15 New Hampshire Reds about 3 years ago. All the chicks arrived in excellent condition. These were purchased for the express purpose of increasing our laying flock. They have not disappointed. They are currently in their lull period going through a normal molt. We have only lost 2 or 3 and those to predators, common in our area. We are very pleased with the purchase and anticipate replacing them with the same breed in 2 years.
