“Our olive egger turned out to be one of the few who lays brown eggs. However, they're an unusually golden shade of dark brown - just beautiful. And she was the first of our six pullets to start laying full-sized eggs - extra-large, in fact. She's smart and friendly, with an enormous personality. So no olive eggs, but no regrets!”
“Olive was hatched in May and started laying large olive eggs, sometimes with brown speckles, at 7 months old. She was an adventurous chick, but became a little more nervous as a pullet. She is friendly, but isn't too keen on jumping into my lap like my FBC Marans and my Favaucana. She will eat out of my hand though. She looks very similar to a Cream Legbar with a crest and their characteristic Comb. She refuses to lay eggs in the box, preferring the darkest (and hardest to reach) corner of the coop. It was worth the wait, ordering a year in advance, to get to find her gorgeous eggs each morning. She lays about 5 or 6 a week now.”
“My olive egger was my Rare Mystery breed lucky dip.
She was by far thee most beautiful of all the chicks with her perfect black eyeliner, dark almond eyes and a black spot on her forheard which actually started to turn into a fabalous crest as she got older.
Very quiet sweet girl when she was young but grows up very quickly and like some of the other reviews say, this breed is always the first to do everything. Pretty sure she is the group leader by default, Iv never seeen any of the chickens stand up to her and if I put her bk into the coop from free ranging all the other chicks will run to get close by to her.
Very pretty girl. Just a little sad now she‚Äôs getting older she‚Äôs become very independent and doesn‚Äôt really like me molly coddling her anymore haha.”
“I purchased a day old chick from MPC back in June, and she just recently started laying eggs. Unfortunately, she lays light brown eggs instead of the hoped for olive green. She is a gorgeous hen but I am disappointed she's one of the 5% that apparently won't lay olive eggs. My order of all hens also ended up with a rooster, so my first and only experience with this site has been somewhat of a let down. Either way, my "olive egger" has such a fun personality and she is definitely one of the favorites -- brown eggs and all.”
“As Olive Eggers all look different, we were confused which one she was in the beginning. (We got her confused in the beginning with a Swedish Flower Hen who could also look different depending on which color we ended up getting). As an adult she looks virtually indistinguishable from a Welsummer--except that she has a white ear! We were convinced she was a Welsummer by accident as at that time the only pics of the Oliver Egger on this site were grey! (She's gold and brown basically). She's maybe not as pretty as some of the other Olive Eggers that have been sold ... but man, she is the cat's meow when it comes to personality! We LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this little gem of a chicken! She is SO FRIENDLY. She comes to peck at the back door when she knows I'm on that side of the house. She's flown up to my shoulder to say hi. She's pretty much always under foot...in a good way. She is so friendly with all the other chickens (16). She's a great forager and is so happy in the garden. She's frequently first to do anything--a real leader but never snippy with the other girls. Just fits in so easily wherever she is. My kids adore her. She lays a very dark olive egg that has lighter green spots on it. The spots are about 1/2-2/3 the size of a pencil eraser and the eggs are extremely large. My daughter brought them to school for Green Eggs and Ham at school. The kids thought they were so very cool. Ha!”
“Our olive-eggers lay an egg everyday, and it's "literally" the color of an olive. They're more skittish than friendly, but not terribly so. The egg size is medium with an occasional large.”
“I received my Olive Egger at the end of June 2017. She laid her first egg on Nov 25th and has been laying almost daily since! She lays, on average, 6 eggs per week! They are a nice olive green shade and she is just the sweetest bird! She is always first to run out of the coop and loves to be held! I'm not one to play favorites with my flock, but she is certainly hard to resist! She is also the most gorgeous shade of steel blue grey! Highly recommend!”
