The olive eggers I bought last fall are my favorite of all my chickens. They are pretty and friendly. They lay huge beautiful olive green eggs. I can’t wait to get more, just need more space

I received a group of 8 chicks, a hatch of the day mix with a few selected breeds back in April. At some point I received an email stating that I should prepare for eggs as my chickens would soon start laying. Within 3 hrs of reading the email we found our first egg! I was amazed at the timing !! It was distinctly olive and obviously from the olive egger. She was about 3 - 5 weeks ahead of the other hens And has been an excellent layer since. Until the recent winter slow down we were consistently getting 4-6 of her beautiful rich colored olive eggs a week! She does look very different then the picture. She is probably the smallest of the assortment we received and is all black with a shimmer of iridescent blues and greens in the sun. Very beautiful. She is not at all what I would consider friendly, more shy I would say and one of the hardest ones to catch but never aggressive. I would say mid flock for pecking order. Kind of keeps to her self when she can. She is rather loud when laying an egg or thinking about laying an egg, but otherwise pretty even tempered quiet disposition. I would definitely include olive Eggers in future flocks.

She's about 10 weeks now and so far, so good. She is not the most tame of the bunch but still friendly and docile. She comes running when she sees me and will jump on my lap/shoulders. Her muffy cheeks look so cool and get lots of compliments.

Let me start by saying I am very happy with our order of 5 chicks from MPC. We received our tiny chicks in April and now by October they are all healthy girls laying wonderful eggs. Our olive egger is big and beautiful, she was the second one to start laying, her eggs are indeed green. She was a little skittish at first, but as she started laying she became a lot more friendly, she's even friendly with my toddler and lets her pick her up or feed her by hand. We couldn't be happier.

We originally ordered a silked white Easter Egger but were called on hatch day and were told that they did not hatch as many as anticipated so we needed to change our order. We added a last minute Olive Egger as a substitution and I am so disappointed that we did. The Olive Egger pullet ended up being an Olive Egger Cockerel! I was suspicious at 4 weeks of age when the bird had still not gotten any adult feathers and had developed a bright red comb and wattle. MPC says that a bright red comb and wattle is not indicative of a rooster, but in my experience, every bird that I have had that had a noticeably red comb and wattle at such a young age did indeed turn out to be a rooster. I continued to contact MPC and was told that we cannot be certain of the sexing error until the report window which starts on 08-23-21. We decided to keep the bird around a little longer to take pictures of the saddle and hackle feathers. Unfortunately, we woke up to the bird crowing this morning. I know that some hens can indeed crow, but this was definitely not a hen sound and my hens are not laying yet (they are only 9 weeks old). We are still not able to get a refund until the report window. We cannot have any roosters where we live. I am hopeful that we will not be fined because of this. He did go to a nice home in the country 2 hours after we heard him crow. I am still giving a 3 star rating because the bird itself was a very handsome bird with a wonderful temperament. I know that this may change when he reaches sexual maturity. I am just very frustrated with the experience that we have had with MPC this time around. Yes, sexing errors do occur, but we are frustrated that we cannot report it until the bird is already crowing.

Gladys is just now 6 months old and started laying last week! She’s the leader of my flock. Not super loud or aggressive but very concerned with perching higher than the others on my lap. She lets me pet her and jumps in my lap every time I’m outside. She’s only loud before she lays an egg. I’m happy she’s in charge. She’s beautiful dark grey all over that gradually turns black on her head. Love her.

We ordered 7, which ended being 3 lovely redbreasted partridge colored, 2 black barred and 2 grey barred. We lost one due to a lung infection, but the six remaining are healthy and happy little foragers. They are scaredy chickens, but not panic stricken every time we approach. They lay pretty olive green eggs, in a range of shades. One of the girls lays a beautiful olive green with brown speckle all over it... GORGEOUS!

We have one olive egger girl named Aretha. She has always been a bit of a bully and is quite a large bird. She looks like a gray cream leg bar. She just now started finally laying eggs and they are a beautiful large/extra large deep olive color. We had hoped that when she started laying her temperament would improve, but alas she is still not a very nice girl. She’s no longer packing at the other birds but wants nothing to do with us. At least she gives us pretty eggs!
