Baby Chicks: Partridge Cochin Female Reviews

4.5 Rating 34 Reviews
You want a cold hardy, hefty, human friendly bird that doesn't skip out on beauty? This is your bird. I bought my girl seven years ago with a bunch of other hens and never regretted for an instant. She's top of the pecking order in my flock, but doesn't tousle with the other girls too badly. My only complaint was that when she was around two or three she got really broody for a whole six months. From research I know Cochins are pretty prone to this, so they make great moms, its just not what I was looking for.

This chick is the cutest little thing and very calm for its age. She came on time and in great shape.

They appeared healthy upon arrival and are doing well in the brooder.

We got two of these girls 5 months ago. They are laying a couple eggs a week and will sing the loudest egg song of all our chickens. They are also so curious and don’t mind being held.

I ordered 4 chicks, 2 of them were Partridge Cochins. These 2 were sickly and weak from day 1. One died within a few days, despite all the advice I took to try and nurse them back to health and the second one died shortly after. I am extremely disappointed as the only reason I placed this order was because my beloved Partridge Cochin (who was my oldest chicken that I actually got from MPC was tragically killed by a fox). So I spent a fortune on shipping these chicks to me, just to not even get the cochins that I really wanted in the first place. MPC did not refund me or replace them. However, after many emails and phone calls and sending a picture of the dead chick, they agreed to send me 1 cochin as a gift on my next order of chicks. So basically I had to reorder a bunch of chicks and they gave me a $5 cochin for free but I still had to pay for shipping and all the other chicks. This isn't fair as the chicks were on their way to death when they arrived. I have had chickens for many years and also hatch them. I know how to care for them and these girls were sick upon arrival. They should have sent me 2 free cochins, paid for shipping and then have me pay for the other 2 that is needed to fill the order. So I have a double broken heart (one from my old girl's passing and another from these two chicks) and a big dent in my wallet. I really hope this ONE free cochin they send me on my next order makes it. If she doesn't, I will be looking for another hatchery.
