“We ordered one little SFH who arrived in June and who has turned into the coolest pullet. She's always friendly (though had a bit of a bratty phase), never flighty, and will jump into our arms at the slightest hint of an invitation. After hearing that MPC uses some of the same stock as Meyer, I was worried that she'd look like their SFHs - lanky, close-feathered, big-combed, not very flowered. But nope! She's a big round grey and chestnut puffball with a conservative comb and lots and lots of little white flowers all over! Better than even the pic up there. Honestly, she looks to be the same quality as Greenfire Farms SFHs! (Though she doesn't have a crest.)
And true to her ancestors' high-latitude origins, she laid her first egg today! Little did I expect to find a beautiful tiny pink egg on this cold, grey, dark winter day in MN - but there it was. And we don't provide artificial lighting.”
“Received 2 chicks, a dark one and a beautiful honey-gold one! They have been extremely active and friendly since day 1. At just 14 days old, the golden chick is almost completely feathered out and the dark one isn‚Äôt far behind, both of them are also flying quite well. They seem miles ahead in development compared to my chicks of other breeds.”
“We ordered 1 SFH in our order of 7 chicks. Millie was by far the sweetest personality even at just a few days old. Loved to be held in our hands. Unfortunately, after 5 days Millie passed. If there was more availability for SFH, I would order another one in a heartbeat. My sons were excited to see what color she was going to be once her feathers grew in. They were looking forward to the guessing game since SFH have such a wide array of colors and patterns. MPC was great and worked with us, offering advice and making an exception by refunding us our money, even though they technically only guarantee the chicks up to 48 hrs. Their customer service is excellent and while it does not replace our loss emotionally, it makes us want to do business again with MPC in the future.”
“Our little gal turned out to be the color I had hoped for! Polka dots all over with a crest ontop. She has just started laying a week or so ago, but I didn't realize it was HER eggs in the coop since they were so small. Thought my SG Silkie was laying them, but I caught our Swedish laying. The eggs are 50g. Fingers crossed they will get to be at least 60g (USDA large) in a month or so. If they do get bigger, than I would give this breed a 5 star rating. As far as personality goes, she holds her own, but is definitely not the top dog. She will let the cat know who's boss, but she's otherwise in the middle on the pecking order. Probably not a lap chicken, although, I don't encourage that behavior. Honestly, chickens aren't especially clean animals! :)”
“My chicks are 13 weeks old and the Swedish Flower Hens are absolutely delightful. They're intensely social, friendly to everyone, curious, the first to explore new things and noises, and are docile to the point of begging to be picked up. They're beautiful, and I did indeed get a blue snow leopard or snow flower. They're not aggressive but the crested one rules the flock. Lovely, healthy chicks and thoroughly delightful juveniles!”
“This is the 1st. time I've had chickens. I adore my Swedish Flower Hen (Posey)! She was 1st to jump in my lap to be handled. She will lay down on command and has learned to jump for a mealworm on command too! The best thing is her BEAUTIFUL coloring; a golden chestnut with black tail fwathers and white tips! Posey is truly a little bouquet!”
“I received my chicks around the end of May and they have grown into very healthy and pretty chickens. Mae, the Swedish Flower is the first to try anything new. The other day I put a new plastic tray in the run filled with corn and melon. The flock screamed in terror and ran off, but I knew Mae would be the first to come and check out the new tray. She did, and soon the flock was enjoying the treats after following her example. She and my Cochin bantam rooster, d'Artagnan are the bravest. I always laugh at the funny things they do.”
