Baby Chicks: Speckled Sussex Female Reviews

Arabella is only 16 weeks now and hasn't laid her first egg, but she is absolutely gorgeous and one of the first to greet me. I have rarer, more expensive birds who don't have half the personality that she does. I can't wait to see her first eggs. She is truly beautiful inside and out.

If chickens could be livestock guard dogs, our two would qualify! Given the chance, I believe they'd wear little police caps and badges around the yard. They're fiercely loyal to the flock and they're the final say on accepting someone new. They're chatty as chatty can be, and follow us wherever we go even without treats. Laying wise, one has given us mostly small medium brown eggs and the other gives us large pinkish eggs, and are still going strong as they approach 2 years old.

OK, I'm a little late writing this review. I received Caitlyn at least 5 years ago! She's the most amazing insect catcher, jumper, mouser (yes! mouser) and an all around wonderful bird. She lays dark brown eggs & seems to enjoy the company of people. An interesting and reliable girl! I'm ordering 2 more of this breed this month. Oh, I forgot that every year after a moult, she gets more beautiful.....more speckled.

I love this breed. They are so gentle and friendly. We even had a rooster and he was gentle, which is rare to find in a rooster. They do lay small eggs but are dependable and their gentleness makes up for the egg size.

I have two 9-month old speckled sussex. They follow me wherever I go like a dog. They loved being picked up. They lay smaller eggs but lay everyday. I love them!
