“My March 2023 order was everything I paid for and more!
They (5) are friendly (would rather not be pick up, except for one) and including my ordered rooster!! I did gift away 3 chicks (to a needing family) with one being another rooster/straight run of my order since I had to reach the order-minimums. Five is the perfect number for my smaller coop! These young girls give me an egg a day and they are a light blue with about the same shade. The eggs started at small-medium size but now are medium - large size. They are 6months old now with their own run and coop!
They are super curious and beautiful little creatures to watch. They would rather stay outside in their very secure run vs going into their coop at night and also, stay out in the rain . They lay their eggs like champs in their nesting boxes. I can escort/herd them into their coop when I feel it necessary. I do need to get an auto-door just to let them out in the winter and I hope they will eventually put themselves to bed at night (as my other chickens do). I do not allow them to free-range with the others (they ALL have night lock-up) mostly because of my investment. These white beauties are friends with a mild hierarchy and with “Rooster” as the brave protector!
I would not say that they are overly messy but we have ducks, which are the messiest!! I adore their clean white slighted peppered bodies and the rooster is super-handsome with some yellow but faint streaks in his long feathers. He is “gentle enough” with his girls and they like him.
I had two go broody; one I caught early and the other was more of a challenge to break because I was slower in my attempts to stop it? The one I reacted to quickly only took one day in a pen of isolation, in our barn. The more difficult one broke my heart because she was miserable. I first tried ice under her and in her nest but that did not work, with two rounds of ice. Next she got two nights of isolation which really upset her. When she calmed, I put her back with her flock/family and that was too soon. Next attempt was soaking her in a container of water for about 15 minutes (a nicer-summer day) with cooler garden hose water. She was funny with the soak. She was the most relaxed she had been since going broody! She basically just floated with her legs dangling beneath her. I could remove my hands from keeping her inside the container. Next
we cuddle with a towel-dry and she was done - she joined her family as a happier non-hormonal and no longer a wanna be momma!
I have no plans for new baby chicks until these get older (no need to change things up since they get along so well) and their egg production declines. They were purchased, specifically feed and housed as our personal egg providers. But in the spring, when we are over-run with eggs I may sell the blue ones around Easter!!!
Sorry so long but wanted to share the details I could not find on-line during my search. My original choice for them was their weather tolerance since we live in Kansas with high and low temperature extremes and I wanted a nice rooster, to me !!!
DON’T HESITATE with this blend! The breeders knew exactly what they were doing with these blue egg layers!!!”
“I'm a nervous nelly here. I order two Super Blue Egg layers last year, but they succumbed to outside predators. I'm looking forward to seeing them grow and seeing what a super blue egg looks like as opposed to other "normal" blue egg layers.”
“I have two of these beauties in my flock. They are brave and curious, and their eggs are gorgeous. They hatched 3/6 and started laying about two weeks ago. One of my ladies has gorgeous black splashes here and there, and the other is all white. They’re wonderful layers!”
Thank you for taking the time to review our little Bountiful Blue Egg Layer babies! Your flock sounds gorgeous! We are so happy to hear they are doing well and bringing you happiness! My Pet Chicken hopes to help you with your flock needs in the future!
“I have had a backyard flock for a few years now and am learning more and more as I go. I really wanted to buy chicks from local breeders and hatcheries, but it's difficult to find the more unusual breeds and also difficult to find someone who will sex baby chicks. So due to this and some miscommunication with locals, and despite my reluctance to deal with shipping live animals, I broke down and reluctantly ordered chicks online through MPC.
I ordered 1 EE Frizzle, 1 Austra White, 1 Blue Copper Marans, 1 Red Star, and 1 Super Blue to add to my small backyard flock. I was anxious that they would arrive dead or unhealthy. The shipment tracking did a good job of updating me when they'd been packed and shipped, and I believe the chicks were inside of their package for less than 36 hours total, despite being shipped across multiple states. My local post office knew in advance that they were coming, and called me the minute they arrived.
They arrived happy and healthy. I was delighted with their condition and the quality of the container and way that they were safely shipped. They are now a month old and are thriving. It's still a bit too early to tell, but they all give early evidence of being sexed correctly as female. I will not officially add them to the existing flock for another couple of months, but there have already been moments when they've been allowed to free-range side-by-side with the adults and there's already signs of acceptance from the adult chickens.
So I'm now a believer! As much as I enjoy supporting locals, this is just too good of an alternative choice in terms of being able to find interesting breeds, being able to order them as female only, and in terms of the quality and health of the birds that arrived. The next time I need to replace chickens to my flock, I will be ordering from MPC.
5 stars; very happy!”
“The Bountiful Blue Egglayer chicks arrived in great condition. They will be a nice complement to my other girls. Can't wait until they start laying blue eggs!”
Thank you for sharing your experience with us! We are so happy to hear they arrived in great condition. Enjoy those beautiful blue eggs when your sweet girls start laying.
