“This girl is amazing! She’s laying daily even in winter! So funny, seemed mean at first so we named her Chicken Pad Thai as a cute threat but realized she’s just super curious and nosy with the other chicks and ducklings. Beautiful blue green eggs that fade to a gorgeous cool mint color in winter. Definitely get this chicken!”
Thank you so much for sharing this. It sounds like Chicken Pad Thai has become quite the character in your flock and we got a good smile out of her name. We love hearing when a bird proves everyone wrong and turns into the curious social butterfly of the group! Daily winter laying and those blue green eggs are a wonderful bonus! We are glad she is bringing so much personality and color to your coop and we appreciate you taking the time to recommend her!
“These are some of the friendliest chickens I own. They love attention, cuddles, and they are very curious. I got 2 hens and they both went broody twice and raised their chicks, the first time was only a month after they started laying the largest blue eggs of all my blue egg layers. Their eggs weigh between 63-73 g!!! Huge! Even tho they are not a very large hen. I would highly recommend!!! They both made great mothers!”
Thank you so much for the lovely review of these beautiful exclusive birds! The Bountiful Blue is a very popular breed for all the reasons you mentioned! They are wonderful mothers and yes, those eggs are so big! The breed is heat and cold hardy making them a perfect bird for any climate and a backyard favorite! If we can provide any additional support on your journey, we are delighted to help.
“This is the absolute broodiest hen I have ever seen. She goes broody roughly every 4-5 weeks. If you are looking for a broody hen, this is your girl. She lays very pretty blue eggs for me. I bred her to an easter egger and her baby looks identical to her, with more splash feathers, and lays beautiful blue eggs too.”
“I received a mixed flock (black copper Marans, welsummer, black Ameraucana, white silked Easter egger, gold kissed granite olive egger, and bountiful blue egg layer, all of whom I'll review once they're laying and have done enough for me to know frequency) late spring and they all arrived happy and healthy in Oregon the day after shipping . I had a slight scare when the tracking showing as stalled in the same place for most of the first afternoon and showing an estimated delivery 5 days away, but the MPC customer service woman I talked to was great and reassured me the tracking gets behind sometimes and would probably catch up after they arrived. Sure enough, there they were at my local post office the next morning. The heating pack stayed warm for several days after they arrived, so I feel confident that even had their journey taken longer they'd have been warm.
Rose was one of my sweetest chicks from the start and would fall asleep in my hand and as she grew would frequents perch on my shoulder or snuggle in my lap during visits (she still does!) she always runs to greet me when I go out and follows me around and is generally sweet and sociable with humans.
She's pulled a few feathers out of her sisters on occasion and is towards the top of the pecking order, but is generally fairly polite and doesn't bully anyone - in fact the smallest in my flock often goes to her for protection.
She was one of the fastest growers and is one of my largest 2 (of 6) birds currently. She was also the first to lay at exactly 23 weeks. Her first egg was 55g (1g shy of being large) and they've increased in size since then, currently around 63g and still increasing. She lays 5/week and they're delicious!
She was the 1 in 16 who had a single comb rather than a peacomb and I was so anxious to see what color her eggs came out. They're lovely and honestly I couldn't be happier even if they were blue! They're a cream with a bloom that gives them a pink tinge that's tricky to catch on camera, but absolutely lovely in person and such a perfect addition to my egg basket :)”
Thank you for taking the time to share such a thoughtful update on your flock and especially on Rose. We are glad your shipment reached you quickly and that our team could ease your mind during that tracking glitch. It is always a relief when the post office calls the next morning with everyone safe and ready to start their new life.
Rose sounds like an absolute treasure. A chick who naps in your hand and later graduates to shoulder visits usually becomes the kind of bird that follows you like a tiny feathery shadow. It is wonderful to hear she has kept that sweet nature while still holding her own in flock politics. Every group needs a steady leader who can keep the peace and also offer protection when the smallest bird needs it.
As for the egg color, we are pleased to announce that we have a new policy regarding egg colors promised... and you qualify for that new policy! We will email you privately for more information!
“Bountiful Blue are my favorite for there sweet personality and they are smart, always leading the flock. Love to be carried around or just sit on my lap.”
Thank you for sharing this MaryAnna! We’re so happy to hear how much you love your Bountiful Blues—they really are such sweet, smart birds. It sounds like yours have you well-trained for lap time and cuddles! They’re truly special members of any flock.
“We've had our girl Dot for a little over two years now, having gotten her as a "super blue layer" and boy howdy is she, she lays vibrant blue eggs once daily-- even in winter. She follows us everywhere, and is more like a small toddler with wings than a chicken. She's our head hen and actually lived through a dog attack! She saved our whole flock by drawing the dog away and waiting for us in a tree, giving the rest of the girls time to hide under a car. Very smart bird. She's definitely got an attitude and will honk at you until she gets what she wants. She'll walk right up to the fridge/cabinet/sink and tap at what she wants lol. We love our girl, we love all of our chickens from MPC but Dot especially. I'll always have a special place in my heart for this little gremlin with how she'd fly over to my chair at 5am to nest on my head while I was trying to work (until I finally caved and put them into the big-girl run) and how she'll clean the whole house of crumbs and spiders if she finds a way inside. (she always does, somehow) If you love chickens that look like mashed potatoes with the attitude of a cat and the voice of a goose I say go for it, these ladies are worth their weight in gold, very entertaining birds.”
Dot sounds like such a wonderful member of the flock! From laying those gorgeous blue eggs like a champ to saving the flock during a dog attack like a little hero, we are beyond impressed. It’s clear she rules the roost and your hearts, and we can totally picture her tapping on the cabinets like a clever feathered toddler.
Thank you so much for sharing her story—and for giving her such a wonderful life. We’re honored to have played a part in bringing Dot (and the rest of your flock!) into your world. Here's to many more years of honking, spider-hunting, fridge-tapping fun.
“This little girl is something else. The bravest of the bunch, the first to explore new things, and the first to settle down on my arm for a nap. Great personality!”
