Baby Chicks: Bountiful Blue Egg Layer Female Reviews

4.7 Rating 152 Reviews
Supa Star is the sweetest little hen ever! She started laying the most beautiful pale aqua eggs at 24 weeks in the dead of winter. As a chick she was a little shy, but as she grew she got so friendly and loves to be picked up and pet on her fluffy little ear muffs! Supa is petite, but holds her own in the flock and even tries to steal treats from the older bigger hens! I have a feeling she will go broody, she loves to sit on eggs and tuck them under herself, so cute to watch! I am so happy to have Supa Star in my flock!

Supa Star sounds like an absolute gem—sweet, beautiful, and full of personality! It’s amazing that she started laying such lovely eggs even in the middle of winter. We love hearing how she’s grown from a shy chick into a confident little hen who knows how to hold her own. Enjoy all the adorable moments with her—maybe she’ll become the best little mama one day!

Okay, I'm not a fan of F1 crosses, Easter eggers, etc... but I might be changing my mind. The bountiful blue I got as a replacement for a breed which hatched poorly, and I have never been more grateful for a substitution! She's incredible. She's far and away the most curious, friendly and fearless of my flock, despite receiving the exact same attention. She is also the only one to keep laying through some record cold this winter. Every day I am greeted by a medium sized, light blue (not aqua or green!) egg. When we had an oops rooster, she was his favorite, which seemed to affect her negatively, but now that it is all girls she's getting along with everyone else perfectly.

We love hearing stories like this! It’s wonderful that your Bountiful Blue has won you over with her curiosity, friendliness, and resilience. Laying through record cold is no small feat—what an amazing hen! And that consistent light blue egg must be such a joy to collect each day. We’re so glad this unexpected substitution turned out to be such a perfect fit for your flock. Thank you for sharing your experience, and we appreciate you being part of the My Pet Chicken family!

We’re sorry to hear that you’re disappointed with your Bountiful Blue Egg Layer and that one of your birds has a cross beak. While we do our best to ensure that the vast majority of these birds lay blue eggs, genetics can occasionally result in an unexpected outcome. We understand how frustrating that can be, especially when you were expecting a specific egg color. We appreciate you reaching out via chat, and we hope the suggestions provided—such as using food coloring to confirm which bird is laying which egg and checking the inside shell color—are helpful in identifying your layers. Additionally, we hope you are aware of the issued store credit for the bird with the cross beak, as we want to ensure you have a positive experience with us. If there’s anything else we can do to assist you, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We truly value your business and appreciate you giving our birds a chance in your flock.

My little Aurora is the 1 in 16 girls that lay white eggs. She has a single comb and white ear lobes but a great beard and blue legs! I am rating her high because she is very sweet and gets along well with the other girls! She can be picked up without a squabble and sits on my lap. I bred her to a white Cochin and the babies are big balls of fluff with beards! My question is …will her daughters lay blue eggs or is that trait gone?

Thank you for your wonderful review of Aurora! She sounds like such a sweet and unique addition to your flock, and her friendly personality is the cherry on top. How exciting that her chicks are little fluffballs with beards—what a fun cross! Regarding egg color, her daughters may lay blue eggs if they inherit the blue egg gene; however, since Cochins tend to lay brown eggs, they may very well lay ones with a more olive hue to them. Breeding can sometimes surprise us! Thank you for sharing Aurora’s story; she sounds like a treasure.

So happy our Chicoletta lays a blue egg, since the Ameracauna hen I ordered ended up being a rooster—so no blue eggs coming there. But I love our bountiful blue layer Chicoletta, she’s our only hen that lets us pet/hold her. She’s very friendly and curious, but can be a little aggressive jumping and biting our hands looking for treats—maybe because she’s at the bottom of the pecking order and doesn’t get much unless we hand feed her the treats. She started laying around 5 1/2 months and in the past month lays 5-6 eggs/week. Our whole family loves her the most so I put an order in for 2 more bountiful blues for next spring!
