Gentle Leader Headcollar X LARGE / Black Reviews

4.7 Rating 28 Reviews
This is a great device to gently teach your dog how to walk well on the lead. Our puppy hates it and has had some stunning tantrums but it has made a big difference over time. She is much more responsive and no longer pulls your shoulder joint out of place each time you take her out! For her, it was a preferable option to a harness which caused chaffing on her delicate skin

I purchased this collar (medium size) a month ago, for my 18 month old border collie - huntaway cross (27 kg)- . My dog absolutely could not be taken 3 metres around the house, without pulling. We have tried every single training method, including stopping when he pulls, reversing, turning into opposite direction, giving treats etc, AND all sorts of slip leads, which he ended up breaking (yes, that kind of puller). This head collar is supereasy to put on, and seems to MENTALLY restrain a dog - it is gentle but seems like having something on his nose makes him obey, like those anxiety blankets, but against pulling. Unfortunately, I could not comment the durablity, as we had left the first one on the beach, and I have ordered the new one instantly. The only con is that it works while it's on, as soon as he mingles his way out of it (but you can put it on easy, so no biggy) he'll go back to same old puller. Btw, I am in my fifth month of pregnancy, and in this delicate stage, I still get to walk my doggy, no matter how strong he is, cause with this head collar, he seems to be light as 1.5 kg chihuahua. Strongly recommend!

I purchased a Gentle Leader for my chocolate Lab and started using it on him at 4-5 months old as he constantly pulled on his lead and would often just about pull me over -so when I became pregnant, this was a big issue! I found the Gentle Leader brilliant, he instantly stopped pulling. My only concern is, the vet told me it would take a few weeks for him to get used to it and he would try get it off. After 4, nearly 5 months of trying, he still doesn't like it, constantly moves his head away while I try to put it on him and often stops while on our walk to get it off with his paws. I also notice if he yawns, he is unable to properly open his mouth while wearing this and looks uncomfortable doing so. So next up, I am going to try the Halti Harness and see how we get on as I want him to enjoy our walks and not feel uncomfortable! BUT your dog may easily get used to it & it does really stop them from pulling so that's why I have given 4 stars.

Had purchased different head collars for my vizsla and this one is really to put on her and it doesn't look that she is uncomfortable with it on

My mastiff cross came to me with NO training whatsoever, and pulls like a freight train. This is a complete back saver. One downside is while it has a mice long strap for adjustments as he grows it does tend to flap around and hang loose.

Sky is a Greyhound x 4 yr old from the pound. She wants to chase everything... naturally! I don't think she has had much lead experience and pulled dreadfully. This worked almost immediately and she is much calmer and under control on our walks. As she is very eager to please putting it on was quickly sorted out after 2-3 times. I leave it on for a while after outings so she is very comfortable with the feeling of it now.

Recently adopted a 2 year old lab/huntaway cross. He was very pulling on lead and wanting to chase after everything. This has been great to get walking by my side with good improvement in a few days. Getting the size right and dog used to feel took a bit of time though. Seems so much better than choker chain.

I am so thrilled with the gentle leader. My 6 month old Rottweiler had become so strong, and so difficult to walk due to pulling that I no longer felt confident to walk him alone. A friend recommended gentle leader and I'm so glad she did. Simply amazing. My pup was like a different dog to walk - so easy, no pulling at all, and so well behaved. I am so thrilled, and will recommend to everyone! A little tricky to get on an energetic pup (as anything is!), but not too bad, and worth the effort.
