The antenna works great, but I did rip the cover off and had to buy another to replace it.

Rugged customer service is awesome! I needed to replace a GMRS stubby antenna - after a short talk with Rugged, I ordered this antenna and had it swapped out in perhaps 30 seconds, quickest install ever! Works much better for the business band channels our 4wd club uses.

I purchased this ‘NGP’ shorty antenna in an attempt to replace my long whip antenna for low-clearance situations. Using an antenna analyzer and SWR meter, the lowest I was able to achieve was 1:2.637 at the 150mhz frequency. It climbed to over 1:5.3 at 158mhz. This small bandwidth is used for desert racing frequencies for those who are wondering. I reached out to Rugged tech support and they basically said, ‘use a different frequency.’ I’m not sure if the ‘ground plane’ version of this antenna would have achieved better results. For reference, my whip antenna is able to get to an SWR of 1:1.2 at 154mhz which is the middle of the band I typically use and shows there is nothing wrong with antenna location. I hope this review helps someone about to pay $35 for an antenna that might not work as expected.

Hi Jason, The Stealth antennas are purpose built for short range communication and obstacle clearance. For example, group rides, caravans, single trail riding within a few miles. Your SWR readings are on par however, what you are mounting the antenna to will make a difference. The NGP antenna should be mounted to non-metallic surfaces such as plastic roofs, or tab off of the cage. My name is Andrew. If you'd like to discuss further I am available by phone, give me a call! 805-810-9246
