How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? This kit made it really clear to students that there are multiple, often blurred perspectives to New Zealand history. It was a really good resource to make this clear and helped build upon the learning that had already occurred in the class this year, par
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? This kit has made me realise how valuable and exciting teaching New Zealand History can be for students. It is really exciting knowing that this will be part of the curriculum going forward and we have been presented an engaging way to get this across to
On the whole I thought this was a well designed engaging kit. It presented information about an important topic in an interesting way. The students really liked the character card guess who - game based learning is usually a hit. In regards to the story that was on the character cards, while it was interesting, I found the content a bit too complicated for my class. It took a lot of scaffolding for me to enable them to make the connections and realise how the different story lines fit together. If in future this could be considered while making these resources that would be excellent.

How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? Teaching NZ history unfortunately is something that I don't manage to schedule into my timetable that often. This was a great opportunity to deliver NZ history in a different way than I would normally in the classroom. The children absolutely loved it!
This kit was inspirational for my students. They were fully engaged and enthused by the lessons that were prepared. It was hands on, real life learning. It was extremely well organised and easy to follow.

How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? Given the characters and roles, it has created a relatable perspective for students to connect to and consider. This has helped Them to re-evaluate their existing ideas and pre conceptions.
This was a fantastic unit of writing that engaged my students in a real life and hands on experience of New Zealand history. The different characters allowed my students to connect with the different perspectives involved in NZ history and created a more relatable understanding. The results have been a deeper understanding of our national history, and this has been a fantastic tool to facilitate such learning.

How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? I think it's highlighted to me how important it is to teach multiple perspectives. This kit is a useful resource for further use, I feel I could bring out bits from time to time, I will use it every year.
This was the best kit I've had so far (with the exception of the Walking with an Anzac). It was highly engaging, across year levels - I had a mixed group. The children were shocked at the differing opinions and I think the learning was profound. THANK YOU so much for this opportunity and an incredible resource.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? Two events occurred that severely disrupted how I was and was not able to use this kit. The first was Covid 19 lockdowns, and the second was that half my Year 5 class was moved on to other classes and were replaced by Year 4s. The Kit could have been bet
A sticky mess greeted us when we opened the bag of Museum items - the jar had leaked its contents. I purchased the book on Tupaia, as I needed to develop my knowledge and understanding of this great man.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? It made them more aware of multiple perspectives through the viewpoints of others and timings. They were able to link back to actual recounts (provided by myself) and get a better grasp of the varying views, opinions and treatment on others.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? It definitely made teaching NZ history easier! I have a limited knowledge in this area and the resources and readings provided were exception at guiding and teaching me to help the kids understand.
This kit was great and allowed my classroom to make connections between some real life wonderings they had and some factual information from the past. It was poor timing for some of it as we were completing it straight out of lockdown and then when the BLM movement was in full force which brought up some concerns and emotions regarding racism and inequalities.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? The kit helped the students a lot. As mentioned, they especially enjoyed the practical tasks. They were fully entertained by the 'apple incident' right at the beginning of the unit whereby we staged the taking of an apple. 'Guess Who' game and 'collecti
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? Yes. Resourcing is important for engaging and maintaining that throughout. Also, making connections is paramount, fortunately for us...being central to places where key events took place in the Bay of Islands was a really good advantage.
The kit was great-as are all School Squad kits. It was well resourced and user friendly for the students. The kit offered an interactive alternative for exploring the events and perspectives of the interactions between European and Maori. The students especially enjoyed the artefacts component of the unit. Thanks for the unit. As per usual, I did have difficulty with the plan and it takes a few goes to break it down further and understand it. Once I did that, it progressed well.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? This was a really complex idea for some students. Examining the stories in detail and in particular making the timelines really pushed them to come to grips with the concept of multiple perspectives.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? I loved the many different perspectives that the story was told from and using objects to share the story through as well. It was an awesome way to look at one event in depth.
This kit was great! My students were really interested in the content. They loved working through the activities and we're so engaged with every step. By the time we presented our final exhibition they were so confident in their knowledge and enthusiastic about sharing it with others. It linked in really well with our reading as well and the students were able to extend their learning reading articles and researching different aspects that interested them.
