How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? The activity I made up was a Year 5 child bumping into a teacher and spilling the teacher's coffee all over her outfit and the child did not even apologise or stoped to check if the teacher was ok. So, we investigated what everyone was doing at that momen
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? It has given me the opportunity to make history a palpable experience. The objects included in the kit generated curiosity in the children and they started asking if it was real people, talking about the characters in the cards. We read the cards again af
As I saw It' is a complex kit. It took me a while to get my head around it, but once I clicked in all the links in the teacher guide it was easier to navigate. My students enjoyed having the large cards with the different characters' experiences and the books suggested in the links were very helpful. I liked the linked with the Auckland Museum and the objects included in the kit. It is a fantastic way of teaching history! I will use it again. I hope next time we use it, we don't get interrupted by a lockdown.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? Definitely-everyone was very eager to know what had happened and then weighing up what everyone saw. Easily related back to the school grounds or in the classroom.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? I have studied NZ History at University so the way the event was told was interesting and made it interactive. It was a great starting point then you could find out more in inquiry about conditions on ships and Maori lifestyle pre European.
The Kit was great, easy to use once I got used to the lay out. The kids loved the cards, maps and objects, it brought everything to life. It was a real integrated project and your ideas for starters and getting buy in were very effective.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? The kit was very effective in stimulating discussions. The idea that a shell, flag, potato etc could shed a different perspective was new to all of us. Awesome kit! Thank you for the opportunity to use with my class.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? In planning in the future, I will certainly be encouraging a wider lense on any topic. I realise I have been limiting the opportunities for learning by having a narrow direction.
This was learning from a new perspective for the students. They hadn't considered how a particular event could be considered from so many different perspectives.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? It definitely helped to harvest respect for different opinions and to actively take a stance to see something from another person's point of view; not only for this time in history, but for everyday problems that arise in a school social setting.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? Personally, very enlightening. I definitely did not have an understanding of the maori perspective of Europeans arriving in NZ. I am a foreigner myself. I have only been here for 2 years. The information I learned was invaluable. Thank you!
The kit is quite a lot to absorb and required me, the teacher, to do a lot of background reading. Although, it was very interesting, I found it difficult to fit this kit into my plan. The school term has been very busy and I felt that much catch up teaching and learning had to be done. I then had to change my term plan in anticipation of us going into another lockdown. I had to have learning tasks planned that could easily be done remotely. So, unfortunately, I only used parts of this kit. I the kit is better suited to primary students than to intermediate students. I plan to re-use this resource next year around Waitangi Day.
