How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? The cards and the learning experiences carefully provided opportunities for the students to discuss and sequence the event, considering what each person might have seen, and use evidence to support their ideas.

This kit was a thoroughly enjoyable and learning experience for the students in my class. They were challenged and engaged with having to make inferences in order to create a timeline and understand the sequence of events. This was developed further by the high interest objects associated with each of the characters. I will definitely re-use the content of this kit in the future - it was a highly engaging and motivational set of experiences that introduced different perspectives linked to a developing critical thinking in history.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? Being able to use the cards and mapping out the story were a key part to understanding that everyone had multiple versions of the event. Once they physically placed the characters on the map we were able to discuss why they heard or saw what they did and
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? It brought history to life in the classroom in a way that really engaged the kids. I am pro NZ History and so love teaching it but the way this pack was made and the little surprise elements of it really made it special. We are such a small school and we
All we can say is WOW!! We absoloutley loved it and we were also fortunate enough to be part of the event here in Whitianga last year. So it brought everything back out again and brought history to life in the classroom. The cards were a little hard to read and digest for year 6's and needed a bit of scaffolding. They were quite wordy. Which is understandable but perhaps you might want to consider looking into having different levels for the different years. Particularly for year 5-6. However, I can say with absoluteness that we enjoyed it! The videos that came with the kit and the suggestions around creating suspense in the way we received it was awesome. It made the kit more real for the kids and they felt like the pack was sent especially for them. Especially when they were sent to the office after watching the video. Honestly it was one of the highlights to see their faces when they went to pick it up. Such a delight. Our museum exhibition was a hit! The classes that came through enjoyed it and we were able to visit the local museum and talk with a curator about all the different aspects of putting an exhibition together. The video that came with the pack around curating and creating an exhibition was great. Really helped to inspire thought and the kids themselves thought of going to our local museum and interviewing the curators there. This included asking them for ideas on casing, lighting, information to include with the exhibition and colour. They wanted to make sure their artefacts were looked after and shown off. We also created real life characters with our cards, dressed up and created our version of events as part of the museum exhibition. They loved this and enjoyed taking on the key roles. We had so much fun, and we are really grateful for having received this kit.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? There was just so much talking throughout. The students really engaged with the activities and materials. We swapped around the cards a lot so they got to explain others views in their own words too

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? This kit allowed students have share their ideas and thoughts, from this it then created an understanding of how different our ideas can be and how we must learn and respect each others perspectives and the choices they make.

How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? It has made teaching NZ history a lot easier for both the teacher and the students learning
This is an amazing resource and even more amazing that it was free. At the kura I work at we are given our science and social science topics- school wide. What I loved about this kit was that it fit with one of our term topics. HOWEVER, due to Covid we had to change our planning and the kit was not accessable to me. It also did not fit with our changed inquiry topic. I am planning on using this in the future though. And I love working with school kit to achieve awesome things.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? It was great. Students enjoyed learning about Tupaia and his role in creating a good relationship between Maori and Cook's crew.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? It has made me ensure I am not 'lazy' with the knowledge I search for, that is: to seek for other perspectives not just the most well known or well recorded. Seeking the other stories and perspectives on that moment in history.
The ideas and information provided in this kit gave me a great deal of knowledge and understanding of NZ First Encounters. This gave me the confidence to allow me to be creative and adapt the activities and outcomes to suit my class. I learnt a great deal myself and as a New Zealander felt a bit ashamed to not be as knowledgeable on our own history. Teaching the idea of seeing history from different perspectives is really important and this was the main idea taken by my students.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? My tamariki really got that history is written by people, and it's woven of points of view, and that not all those points of view have been represented in official History.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? I can see how using the people more as characters is really engaging, and that relating it to current world events also helped students take an interest.
What an amazing kit! We loved the resources in the kit and especially the reality aspect of the museum part of the kit... Very cool. Here are some photos of the class exploring the character cards.

To Whom It May Concern Unfortunately due the lockdowns we have had and the need for changing of our long term plans, I was unable to implement the kit with my class. I apologies for this. I reviewed the contents and was excited but as mentioned we had to change our term plans to cater for the lockdown with a modified version of what we needed to cover. I am holding onto the kit in the hope that I can implement it in the near future. I will not be able to do this during this Term or the next. Apologies for that. Regards Anna
