How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? Cultural perspective was something we discussed in depth, as noted above. Having discussions about what was undertaken in one culture and not understood by another culture were valuable in having students develop their own understanding. We also looked at
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? It hasn’t so much changed it as it gave me artefacts to assist in teaching that there is more than one side when considering an historical event. I have always taught history encouraging both sides of an event to be looked at but using the character cards
I loved the resource as a whole even though we did not get a chance to use it completely. I am hoping to get back to it next Term and set up the museum exhibits. It was great for having the kids consider story telling from a range of perspectives and the bias that history can have placed on it. Understanding early interaction between Māori and European was also a definite plus for the students. Some exceptionally rich, deep conversations were the result. Showing the students career opportunities within anthropology and archaeology was also great - an area our daughter studied that students often do not consider as an option. The how do they know questions that eventuated were great. It is a resource that I will be using again as it was such an eye opener for the students. Thank you so much for such a rich resource - always a pleasure to see and use these kits. Ngā mihi nui.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? we did not do it
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? i found the kit very hard to use. not enough detail for me to teach to it and above the children i teach to get them to do full on research.
i am afraid the school kit this year did not go to plan. too many interruptions, and i ciuldnt give the time to it that it needed.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? For my more able learners, it was very beneficial. Some of my learners were introduced to using different lenses, however unable to apply them.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? It made many of my children look through different lenses.
The resource was great, however it took a little while for me to understand what I needed to do with the learners.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? It allowed students to make connections to the characters and where they were, what they were doing and identify their key parts in the story.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? It has not focused on one perspective but many centered around the same event. I intend on using this kit next year with a new set of students.
We loved the As I Saw it resource kit as it allowed students to learn about NZ history through it. The follow on we took from the As I saw it resource were the school journal stories One about Tupaia, Captain James Cook and the Google Earth Story showing Cooks Voyage. This resource provoked alot of discussions and questions why things happened the way they did. Students also wrote character perspectives.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? The kit was very effective in stimulating discussions. The idea that a shell, flag, potato etc could shed a different perspective was new to all of us. Awesome kit! Thank you for the opportunity to use with my class.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? In planning in the future, I will certainly be encouraging a wider lense on any topic. I realise I have been limiting the opportunities for learning by having a narrow direction.
This was learning from a new perspective for the students. They hadn't considered how a particular event could be considered from so many different perspectives.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? Definitely-everyone was very eager to know what had happened and then weighing up what everyone saw. Easily related back to the school grounds or in the classroom.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? I have studied NZ History at University so the way the event was told was interesting and made it interactive. It was a great starting point then you could find out more in inquiry about conditions on ships and Maori lifestyle pre European.
The Kit was great, easy to use once I got used to the lay out. The kids loved the cards, maps and objects, it brought everything to life. It was a real integrated project and your ideas for starters and getting buy in were very effective.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? It made them aware of the fact that we don't always see things as they happen and our memory can be a bit fuzzy in terms of recalling facts and what we think we saw, or what we want to have seen.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? There is a lot to learn and research but the different perspectives are important to teach to give a wider range of experiences to our students. I enjoyed the links. I often worry about verifying the information so as not to mis-represent our history.
The hook for the kit was a lot of fun for the kids and gave them a bit of real world perspective. There was a lot of information to take in with the cards but it was very relevant to the students being able to engage with our early Maori history.
