How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? This kit opened a new way to teach NZ history and has been very helpful in establishing a focus that was followed up with a visit to the Tuia250 flotilla and Te Papa programmes.
An excellent resource that walks you through the delicate process of discussing recent history. The idea of perspectives was a good place to centre the kit around, with the early activities around placing yourself and comparing narratives of the same event crucial to the understanding of the later timelines.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? The kit instigated deep thinking and questioning from the students. We went from history of Aotearoa, to early exploration and even delved into migration. It was awesome!

Sorry for the late review, but as always, Schoolkit provided a kit that was educational, informative and very important. I think because the character cards were so informative and as they were based on real people the students were really interested in their story. We also watched the news coverage of the Tuia 250 I think because the character cards were so informative and as they were based on real people the students were really interested in their story. We also watched the news coverage of the Tuia 250 journey and there was much discussion about how unfairly Cook was portrayed. Learning about the history of Aotearoa was an eye-opener for most of my students. Most of them had never learnt anything like this, let alone know who Captain James Cook was. Schoolkit activities has inspired our staff members to sign up to it because of the valuable learning it has. Look forward to more writing kits in 2020, esp about NZ!

We had such a great time with this kit! We loved delving into discovering life in New Zealand prior to European settlement. Lots of great learning here. We visited our local museum and back at school we crafted te koka baskets.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? They were so eager to talk to each other about what they had found out. It was great to see so much interaction. I would love to do more tasks that promote them considering different perspectives.
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? Yes, I think it has given me more confidence to teach such topics. Thinking back to when I was at school our NZ history work was boring and repetitive so it was great to see how much interest the kids had.
This kit was very engaging and thought provoking. The kids especially enjoyed investigating the different characters and using 'hot seating' to find connections.

How did this kit help your students to discuss the idea of multiple perspectives? To me this is something quite difficult for young children to grasp as they see their own world as truth and think others see the same things. That’s why this kit is amazing. It really helps children to develop an acceptance of others ideas and viewpoints
How has this kit changed your perspective on teaching NZ History? This kit supports my philosophy on teaching a balanced viewpoint of our history. It also supports my desire to grow higher level thinking and critical Analysis of information. Which I think is so important for our tamariki in this world full of stimulus
One of my favourite kits so far! Such good resources and really hit the engagement factor. I love that this kit helps kids to understand perspectives and that their can be many versions of truth especially in history as it depends who is telling the story. A great kit to engage the students with our own vibrant and interesting history!

This was an outstanding kit and the learning that it prompted was exceptional. About 45 Year 4/5 students worked through the kit for about 14 weeks. The character cards were very inspiring and piecing together what happened at Mercury Bay was quite a challenge for the students. They plotted the journey taken by the Endeavour and we read Cook's Cook by Gavin Bishop and The Adventures of Tupaia by Courtney Meredith which were both sensational and gave the journey a context the students could relate to. The objects could be swapped to suit several of the characters which resulted in great discussion and further depth of thought. Our museum exhibition was the result of much hard work but seeing the students utilising their learning and teaching others through their displays and discussion was very rewarding. Most parents came along and the rest of the school students enjoyed it too. The best kit I have used so far - so much scope to integrate.
