What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? To be honest - we didn't get this far with the kit but I would like to use it again in 2020 to do something like this. I felt that some of the stuff was a little bit ";too young"; for the Year 9s BUT I used the concepts of the kit.

How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? I cannot answer this honestly because I did not use it totally in the way that was intended.

“This kit was aimed at Year 7-8 and I used parts of it with a Year 9 class. I did not use the whole kit as I was running out of time with other topics and it seemed like something that I would use more at the start of the year with a class. I initially got the kit to use with some of our learners who struggle with the level in a Year 9 classroom but I immediately saw that it really needed to be applied to the whole class.”

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? Great having the action to follow. It was structured and the sequence of lessons taught was great.

How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? My students felt they were all in the same waka. The classroom became a safe place where these discussions were held. They were intrigued to learn more and more.

“This kit helped reinforce the importance of understanding &; acceptance. My students were highly engaged because they felt connected to the discussions that surfaced. We talked about stereotypes &; sense of belonging often. These led to discussions about discrimination &; racism. Such a great unit and hope it comes up again soon.”

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? Could be used as part of setting up the class culture / treaty early in the new school year, also some tools for teachable moments if any incidents arise throughout the year.

How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? Created more awareness around how one's comments can effect others, and also awareness around how cultural differences are sometimes similar in purpose.

“Very thought provoking subject, which really challenged the students to think carefully about their own points of view and how their actions and words can affect others. Kept my year 5/6 class engaged and generated lots of interesting discussion.”

“This was the first school kit I have received. The teacher resource is great, I like the step by step information. Unfortunately, I have not used the kit yet with a student/s as I work in a health school and it did not fit in with the students I had this year. The resource is still sitting by my desk ready to trial next year.....watch this space.”

I appreciated the 'What I wish my teacher knew' activity and will try and do that a few times a year, to just check in with where my class is as a group and as individuals. I think doing it multiple times might see me learning more and more about my stude

“Really great discussions and learning for my class and myself to get into some nitty gritty conversations. I will definitely be using some of the activities for the start of next year as we get to know each other in a new class setting and to establish a solid classroom culture that fits my new class of 2020. It was interesting that my class knew all about stereotypes even if they hadn't had a name for them.”
