What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? Surrounding environment is now more inviting and accepting and addresses all cultures!
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? Riding the waka together!! And classroom displays to create a better 'feel ' within the room.
This was a great pack that allowed our students to address and confront quite a hefty topic, or which they wouldn't normally conversate. Although for some it was a bit of a 'hit home' process, it was transparent and honest.. It allowed for reflection on ourselves as individual, us as a class, us as a community, and our surrounding environment and what we implement to make things more accepting and inviting. There were, however, some topics that were skimmed over due to the sensitivity of the discussion and the relevance to some students in our classes.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? I think it more supported learning that we were doing and made it not just history, but relevant today.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? Students are willing to speak up for injustices and have started advocating for themselves more, instead of just staying silent.
Was a great kit - teacher journal was also really good and challenged assumptions. Good connects to rewire - little book on bias. We were already focusing on NZ history and looking at ToW, Tribunal and Dawn Raids, so students were bringing in that learning too.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? We had some good discussions about treating others as equals.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? Helped to strengthen our class culture.
Some great ideas and questions to work through. Didn't complete the kit due to trying to fit it in with another inquiry. Need to do a kit as a whole inquiry rather than fit it in as an extra.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? Did not do this
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? We enjoyed celebrating each others diversity and seeing this as a positive rather than negative. Our class enjoyed stereotype pictionary and the discussions around this
I used the odd activity but found the unit a bit disjointed and there was a lot of work I had to do as a teacher to change it to suit my students.

Hi. I didn't end up using the kit with the class sorry. I had a student teacher at the same time and we had other areas to prioritise.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? The students have become more aware that our differences are what makes us unique and that everyone has the right to feel safe in our school and community no matter what their race, religion, or gender is.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? We have been able to discuss lots of issues openly within circle times and through the activities in the kit and this has helped us connect and understand all our differences and similarities.
We have loved using this kit as a way to address the issue of negative stereotypes and racism. My students all learnt a lot about some of the factors that contribute to racism and how we can challenge the negative thinking that happens. We have learnt that racism can be shown through people’s actions as well as their attitudes and that we need to challenge this when we see it or hear it.

Before Term 3 even started I sent several emails saying I could not complete the kit as management did not agree with some of the content. I had no reply from School Kit

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? This part my class found a bit hard to fathom and access. The ideas suggested didn’t seem to resonate
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? Not really, as we have a very inclusive class but helped raise awareness of the issues
My class enjoyed and got a lot out of parts of the kit. We especially liked the Pictionary game about stereotyping and the relationship stickers. These were very accessible activities and led naturally to great discussions. We also had great discussions around casual racism. Some other aspects of the kit like the printed statements, the students found hard to understand and relate to, perhaps a bit heavy or sometimes too abstract for primary school students. Thank you for the resource it was a great topic to introduce and tackle with my students
