What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? We have gone about this in a slightly different manner. The children all reflected on how and what they do and how they could adapt their thinking. They undertook to change different aspects in their own worlds. Part of this was also connecting and findin
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? The kids are more aware and empathetic to differences and similarities. They really value the character traits of others rather than the superficial ones. We all wrote each other a 'warm fuzzie' recently and so many of the kids said 'they really know me'
We are a very multicultural school so having this kit really did highlight some of the thoughts and experiences of some of the children. It really opened the kids eyes on how we see things from others views and slightly differently. As part of our school assembly sharing they shared about their understanding of stereotypes and under a banner of 'Don't judge a book by its cover'. It had quite an impact on other students and also challenged a few ideas of some staff members. It was a really thought provoking engaging experiences. A very well put together kit on a sensitive topic ;-)

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? This part my class found a bit hard to fathom and access. The ideas suggested didn’t seem to resonate
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? Not really, as we have a very inclusive class but helped raise awareness of the issues
My class enjoyed and got a lot out of parts of the kit. We especially liked the Pictionary game about stereotyping and the relationship stickers. These were very accessible activities and led naturally to great discussions. We also had great discussions around casual racism. Some other aspects of the kit like the printed statements, the students found hard to understand and relate to, perhaps a bit heavy or sometimes too abstract for primary school students. Thank you for the resource it was a great topic to introduce and tackle with my students

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? more deliberate planning around conversations.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? More open conversations about how we may make assumptions and view other people.
Some of the content was quite confronting which was good as we often don't specifically focus on issues such as racism.

I am so sorry not to be able to use this wonderful kit. I read the journal and was really looking forward to the discussions prompted by the activities. Unfortunately one of my team members was struggling with her first class and we decided it was best for our team to all keep using the same plan so that we could support this teacher. I fully intend to use the unit in the future.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? We incorporated the kit in our Inquiry 'Being the Best Me for all to See'. Students were interested to conduct interviews with their parents/grandparents because there are a large number of students who are from other countries. It gave students a greater
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? Students were challenged with some of the questions. They had to dig deeper into who they really are and their origins. There also grew a greater level of tolerance between students and they seemed to accept that we might all be different, yet have many
The Racism Kit could be included within this Unit of Inquiry as it helped students explore family origins.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? I think the impact will reach far beyond the classroom. The questions and discussion that we have has really shown that students are questioning prior thought process about stereotypes
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? Hard to say as the impact I believe is yet to be fully realised. The compliments poster had the most immediate impact in terms of students feeling excited about what other people think about them
What a great resource and with excellent timing for our Christchurch kids, some still dealing with the trauma from Mosque attacks. I loved the pictionary game and also the weather of research and pre-learning that can be done by teachers to inform their teaching

How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? We did a lot of work around compliments and used some ideas from the compliment project to help the students use complimentary language. Giving everyone the chance to be complimented was a fantastic task and the. students really enjoyed it and some of the
The kit was a really useful ignition for lots of interesting discussion around racism. My students were quite shocked when we looked further into examples of racism and I don't think they had actually considered racism to be quite as entrenched as it is in our society. They really liked the stereotyp activity and quite shockingly to me absolutely drew the stereotypical terrorit and the Geek - the conversation that ensured was great. one or two of the children were able to share their experiences of racism and we were also able to draw parallels with anti catholic sentiment ( we are a catholic school).
