What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? The students have become more aware that our differences are what makes us unique and that everyone has the right to feel safe in our school and community no matter what their race, religion, or gender is.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? We have been able to discuss lots of issues openly within circle times and through the activities in the kit and this has helped us connect and understand all our differences and similarities.
We have loved using this kit as a way to address the issue of negative stereotypes and racism. My students all learnt a lot about some of the factors that contribute to racism and how we can challenge the negative thinking that happens. We have learnt that racism can be shown through people’s actions as well as their attitudes and that we need to challenge this when we see it or hear it.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? Our action plan was to make an effort to welcome new people to our community and explore small gestures that would make them feel part of our community. This could be as simple as a regular smile ... to playing ... to helping do small jobs or offering gif
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? The kit highlighted the way we talk to each other .... it made us more aware of who we are as people and generated lots of valuable discussion.
My class of 34 students worked through several of the tasks extremely well. We put up a world map and plotted where many of the students parents came from. It was surprising how many were born in other countries. From there we had them talk about their journey to a new land and the challenges they faced arriving here. We also talked about how these parents have kept traditions alive here in New Zealand and how they have adapted them to fit with a kiwi life style. The drawing game was a hit. We did this several times and had lots of fun but also talked about the messages we learnt from playing it. This lead to viewing some youtube clips of refugees, migrants, and new families

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? It made us explore aspects of culutres that sometimes get overlooked. While we had focussed alot on Māori/Te Reo etc in our class, we had overlooked some of the other cultures. The action plan gave us exactly that... a plan to work from and a base to star
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? Kindness and empathy to others. It meant the kids were gaining a better understanding of the children around them. It was awesome to see.
This kit was great as it helped explore a topic that is sometimes tricky to navigate. I enjoyed that it made us as educators think about our own thoughts and beliefs as well through the journal. The smart plan notepad was great, and at first we used as a whole class and set small goals and then when the children felt more confident they were able to set their own. The action plan cards were great to use as a starting point for the kids to follow their own lines of inquiry. I think that this should be part of every class in NZ, being a multicultural country.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? We went a bit off topic and have really embraced the multiculturalness of NZ. We are currently writing books about the journey some children in our class have had to NZ, which they now call home. This was also inspired by a read aloud book we read at the

How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? While our classroom was already very positive, they became more aware of the language they heard outside of school, especially the terms that people used that had racist connotations. They actively challenged relatives and friends who they heard using rac
This was a thought-provoking kit for me and my students. We are in a very multicultural school, and many of my students, having been at this school their entire educations, had experienced little racism. The concept that this wasn't the case for everyone was sobering.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? I am not sure hat you mean by action plan. I teach at a decile 2, small city school with 50-60% Maori and Pasifika community. We needed to discuss racism in a context relevant for them and find ways to empower them.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? It didn't have as much impact on my class as I thought it would but it was a very good starting point. I struggled with finding the balance between our students needs and CRK plan. I would like there to have been able to ask a troubleshooting person for h
I felt like there was something missing or something that I was not doing right with this kit. But that could be more about my teaching than the kit! I do love the idea of students discussing and learning about this topic.
