How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? Children became more considerate towards each other. They were aware of making everyone feel included.
This was an excellent kit. It made the students think past their immediate world and themselves. It was a great way for them to understand empathy.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? It made us explore aspects of culutres that sometimes get overlooked. While we had focussed alot on Māori/Te Reo etc in our class, we had overlooked some of the other cultures. The action plan gave us exactly that... a plan to work from and a base to star
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? Kindness and empathy to others. It meant the kids were gaining a better understanding of the children around them. It was awesome to see.
This kit was great as it helped explore a topic that is sometimes tricky to navigate. I enjoyed that it made us as educators think about our own thoughts and beliefs as well through the journal. The smart plan notepad was great, and at first we used as a whole class and set small goals and then when the children felt more confident they were able to set their own. The action plan cards were great to use as a starting point for the kids to follow their own lines of inquiry. I think that this should be part of every class in NZ, being a multicultural country.

The change in kit and not being sure where to start in it easily, meant this kit ended up not being utilised as I had first hoped. A more user friendly kit that didn’t need replacement exerts would have been ideal. Keen to try again next year and hope it goes more seamlessly. We have previously worked with the UN and Children’s Commission around child human rights so we are usually very adept at using outside resources. Thanks for thinking of us and we look forward to trying again in 2020.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? Not a lot at this stage. Doing the programme at the end of the year does not give enough time to make a change. My students are inclusive of all ethnicities as we are a very multicultural school.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? Not much different,(see answer to last question). They discussed things openly during the discussions.
Great that the resources were provided.

How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? The students have been reinforced with zero tolerance of any form of racism and to get help from an adult if it ever happened at school. Racism is not ok. We appreciate each other with a newfound interest where families have come from before coming to N
The kit was useful in finding ways to compliment each other and find out about each other and the various cultures in our classroom. It highlighted to about the underbelly of NZ racism and empathise to what it would be like to be on the receiving end. It has also provided a platform for nipping any form of racism in the bud outside of school if you have been in hearing of it.

How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? An awareness of words and their effects. An understanding of the danger of stereotypes. More willingness to challenge stereotypes. We extended this into looking at the history of Chinese goldminers in NZ- worked really well and allowed the children to see
Excellent resource. Gave plenty of opportunities to think about ourselves as individuals, as well as to explore all kinds of stereotypes and how to change them by using compliments.

How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? Students are more accepting of other cultures and peoples beliefs. They listen to understand.
This was a fantastic kit that built on a couple of programmes we were already using within our Year 5 and 6 classes. The activities challenged and extended our thinking around stereotypes, the different cultures within our classes and the varying perspectives and viewpoints these bring to our leaning.
