What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? This opened up discussions in our Yr 7&;8 classes about the challenges they may face when moving onto high school/college. This helped them see the similarities and differences among themselves and to appreciate where they come from. We also discussed the
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? It really opened up the students eyes to what racism and discrimination actually meant. There were some students who felt guilty for having said something that they thought were funny jokes but in fact was stereotyping or discriminatory. My students are b
This was a great kit to have as we have so many students from different backgrounds in our school! This helped remind me as a teacher to always make that extra time to really get to know students - especially having such a diverse class.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? I think the students feel more empowered to voice their thoughts and know how others feel when they do things that hurt.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? Hopefully we are seeing a change in students thinking and actions. This year is our first in an ILE and there are huge numbers in a very open space. This has been problematic in itself so unpacking the kit worked well. We also will have the ideas to rev
As a decile 1 school our school is mostly pasifika but within it we have different island nationalities. The kit helped unpack many unspoken thoughts from our students which he haven't heard before.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? We can identify when we are stereotyping. We are using genuine compliments and understanding why we need to do this. We are linking this with our ";have you filled a Bucket"; incentive program which we run across the school. We have set SMART goals to com

Students are making links as to how the content of this kit can be applied across the school, across the curriculum and into the wider community. It has been very pos
My class and I loved using this Kit. We saved it for Term 4 as it tied in nicely with our Life Ed visit and the focus that we were putting on two of our values, Integrity and Diversity. Kit was easy to use and has well considered resources . Would recommend using at any time of the year

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? Our work on name pronunciation led to in-depth exploration of the languages and cultures represented in our class. We have had some lovely tuakana-teina relationships develop. We have also noticed some schoolwide gaps, for example in the school library,
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? The environment - which we thought was good before - is much more inclusive, we are deliberately finding opportunities to explore our heritages, we have more understanding of each other and we are more relaxed
This is a thought-provoking, sensitively put together kit. We used it for much longer than we had planned to and our classroom culture has benefited hugely. The teacher book is extremely valuable.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? As above the action plan was tweaked towards recognising and celebrating cultural difference, this worked a treat with the year 2's and 3's.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? I think that it made me think about how to help my class recognise and understand the reasons for cultural difference. The we are all different and that's ok message is a really strong one. It helped to change the way we talked about cultural difference a
Loved the kit, as my class was a 2/3 class I had to tweak and supplement some of the activities and chose to steer the work towards recognising understanding and celebrating cultural diversity. This was a really valuable team building study.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? Teaching in a central Auckland school, we have a broad mix of cultural backgrounds and experiences. Sadly, at the tender age of only 11-13, too many of our students already experience racism and prejudice on a regular basis. This unit has opened up valu
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? This topic is one that I touch on semi-regularly but the unit enabled us to apply different filters to show our students that those who experience racism and prejudice don't fit neatly into any one box. The conversations we had about 'white privilege' an
I loved using the 'Not Part of My World' kit with my Y7/8 class. It is a topic dear to my heart and a topic that I think is often easy to avoid due to the potential sensitive nature of it. I had a Grad trainee for part of the duration and she embraced the topic and found the plan outline useful and easy to follow. We added in a variety of other clips and resources and will gladly revisit this in the future.
