What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? As above the action plan was tweaked towards recognising and celebrating cultural difference, this worked a treat with the year 2's and 3's.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? Having a clear idea of what is acceptable vocabulary and language. Holding us all accountable for our actions and words. The learners are aware of who the people are in their lives who build them up

How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? More learners are speaking up about things they dont like and do like. I still think some learners in my class still have a way to go in the way they speak to each other but their awareness is there and they know what is right.

“Allowed for thought provoking discussions around labels and race and gender. Not 100 percent sure my kids totally grasped it all and is maybe better suited for year 6 and up. We did however reflect on the way we speak to each other and casual racism which was very interesting hearing their thoughts.”

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? Strong impact. The make up of our class community is a diverse one. Students able to reflect and share their own experiences of how others see them.

How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? Students have more of an understanding of each other's culture. They are aware of the impact racism has on others and the importance of showing respect ( school value ) to each other.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? It encouraged the students to think about the way they treat others and view this from another's perspective.

How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? The students were more accepting of each other. They were also more aware of their thoughts and actions, and how hurtful some words can be, even if that was not the intention.

“This was such a great opportunity for students to reflect on their beliefs and challenge their thinking around racism in NZ. We had lots of discussion around similarities and differences, both among cultures and across cultures, and the impact of stereotypes. Definitely a thought provoking and engaging kit that I will use again in the future!”
