What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? It opened the eyes of many of my students as we are not always exposed to different situations.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? We had lots of rich discussions and discovered more about each other too.
Great variety of resources that the learners have taken a lot of different ideas from. We all enjoyed creating our wall from the box of goodies.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? The action plan made the learning more relevant for the children because they could think of ways to stop stereotypes and racism in their own ways. This was also a way the small group I worked with used to share their learning with others as other childre
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? This kit allowed for more open discussion to happen in my class. As I stated earlier, the children come from many different countries. I was amazed at how much knowledge the children knew about their own countries and how this kit encouraged them to share
I loved this school kit. It provided a lot of rich learning and discussion for my students and myself. I teach a Year 3-4 class so I chose to work through this kit with some Year 4 children. We are a very multicultural school and so this was a great chance to explore where we all come from. The children are all very accepting of one another but I found this school kit opened their eyes to how sometimes we can cast judgement onto others without realising it (the pictionary game was great to explore this!). The children enjoyed challenging their own thinking about how to accept everyone including their differences. They enjoyed learning more about each other's cultural background and even did their own research about countries each other came from. It was very interesting to explore compliments and how to base these on strengths. The children enjoyed hearing what strengths others felt they had.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? Mindful thinking. Conscious awareness of what is said and an ability to look at situations and scenarios from a differing viewpoint.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? Students became much more aware of their own unconscious bias and of the unintended effect of their words on others - even realising that what they has seen as praise for one person, was inadvertently offensive or demoralising to another person. Another excellent resource. Whilst this kit was aimed at a higher age level, I was able to adapt it to my Year 6 class and the conversations and understandings that came out of it were at an extremely high level.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? Our action plan looked at valuing our diversity. Our Swedish exchange student finished at the end of last term, and students decided to have a Swedish themed day: we learnt a song requested by her, learnt more phrases in Swedish, prepared and ate Swedish
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? The stereotypes task provided the opportunity for students to reflect on their own drawings of these roles, and they were able to share the “why” behind their drawing. For many, it’s broadened their thinking and has deepened their questioning skills. I lo
For many of my students, this unit broadened their thinking, especially around stereotypes, and allowed them to reflect on “why” they think what they do: parental influence, media exposure, school/peers etc. This unit tied in really well with looking at advertising and the media. Perfect for intermediate aged students.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? Children were encouraged to discuss our learning with their families and I invited parents to come into the classroom to be part of this and have a look at how we were taking action.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? Students now have a deeper and stronger knowledge and understanding of racism, stereotypes and prejudice and the impact it can (and does) have on peoples lives.
My Class were reading Holes by Louis Sachar and there is reference in this novel to prejudice and racism. The Challenging Racism Kit worked in perfectly with our learning.

How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? The kit has given us an opportunity to reset and consider our thoughts and feelings about who we are and who others are, and how we can better relate to each other.
The resources in this kit were really useful, it helped us as as a class understand better who we are together. I was interested to see that my students did not have many stereotypes for some of the topics raised.

How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? We are more open about our trust and how we can help others with this. We have opened our minds to what we can achieve as individuals no matter where we come from. This was a beautiful kit and I really enjoyed all the discussions it allowed me to have wit
We loved the kit. We enjoyed talking about stereotypes and why we think the way we do! We looked into our trust circles and at what makes us who we are as individuals in this world!
