What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? The students want to make change. They want everyone to feel accepted and valued and are making plans to share this at a whole school assembly. They realise that whilst they can say great things in the classroom they need to make sure they live their live
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? It made the class bond together as a group more. We found out new things from each other and found it challenged the parents thinking also. One student had never mentioned the Indian side of his family as his mother had suffered a lot of discrimination wh
This was a great kit which challenged student's thinking and perceptions of each other. Students were proud to share about themselves and their cultures and many felt the rest of the class genuinely wanted to hear what they had to say. They were able to look and consider the sterotypes they held about different groups of people and reflect on these and also examine events nationally and internationally and how a lack of tolerance and understanding can lead to issues. We loved learning to compliment each other in honest and considerate ways. Great kit!

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? It integrated well into our RE curriculum, which focuses on respecting all people regardless of belief, background, ethnicity or culture. Using the strategies in the kit enhanced this message with goals and specific things we can action.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? We have something concrete to refer to if people make stereotypical comments, and we can call them on it. The class feel empowered to speak up on behalf of others.
I really enjoyed working through this process, and loved the journal and accessories that came with it. However, my class are a Y3/4 class and it was quite difficult for them to understand some of the concepts, and I was concerned that by simplifying it, I might be diluting the messages. One thing it highlighted was how our multicultural students are supported in our school environment.

How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? The students have become more cultural aware of others. Showing respect and kindness to one another. Showing them articles of what is going on our world in regards to racism really put it in perspective for them.
This was an amazing School Kit. Well organised and planned out that you can adapt the lessons to the students need.

It was targeted at a higher level than level 2 of the curriculum. My Year four found some of the concepts too challenging to understand.

What impact has the introduction of the action plan had on your classroom? We opened up our understanding of Te Ira Tangata and feelings and thoughts around those who are not Māori and celebrating the other parts of your whakapapa.
How did using this kit change the environment in your classroom? It allowed us to draw on the tikanga aspects that show ngakau nui ki nga tangata katoa. it is not always a Pakeha Maori world but a world based on Tangata. Ha aha te mea nui o te ao , He tangata , He Tangata , He Tangata.
This was awesome i had to work a little with drawing on culture as i work in KKM and aspects of our culture are obvious. But i got students to look at other cultures in their whakapapa and that was great.
