Looks great. Our year was disrupted but elements of the kit will work well with our human rights topic.

In what ways did this kit empower your students to challenge racism? Through this kit we were able to discuss ideas that were removed from our own experience (international) and then consider how these same ideas might apply in a national and local context. We also discussed ideas around blame and ownership and reconciliat

How effective was the use of social Media for Fighting Social Injustice Instagram was not a useable tool for us as most of our year 8 students have limited experience or understanding of this forum. Some still do not have their own phones and for others it is not a platform they use.
In what ways did the Teacher Journal challenge you? I consider my self a fairly reflective teacher who places a great deal of importance on the knowing my students and basing my teaching around harnessing their experiences and knowledge - meeting them where they are at and assisting them with progression f
This was a very full and detailed kit. There were elements that we had to source ourselves but it was a case of having to select what we did. Unfortunately, during the teaching of this kit we were moved into lockdown and had to pivot our plans slightly to ensure we had the understanding and rich thinking and conversations that we had intended while leaving some of the more challenging aspects alone. This kit provided a great amount of diversity in the way that we approached each poster (or section for us) and gave scope for each of the four teachers to put their own 'flavour' on this. Through this kit we were also able to stretch our research, speaking and presentation skills. We experimented with creating info graphics but were not able to create the instagram feeds.

In what ways did this kit empower your students to challenge racism? This kit provided students with information that they could question then verify. It gave actual NAMES to their own experiences and observations and the experiences of others. It provided them the opportunity to discover, debate and discuss and even thoug

How effective was the use of social Media for Fighting Social Injustice It certainly helped keep the students engaged - small amounts of information - specific and 'digestible' Great pictures and the format of the posters were great - consistent and not too 'busy'.
In what ways did the Teacher Journal challenge you? Did not use this
Excellent kit to start conversations with students. It took us on a journey all around the world and opened students eyes to their own (and my own) values systems, influences and prejudices that have been passed off as 'normal' and 'acceptable'. It reinforced my growing awareness that empathy and socio-emotional awareness is a need in our students that must be addressed.

In what ways did this kit empower your students to challenge racism? We examined Maori incarceration rates and racial profiling by the NZ police in some depth. I would love to have examined the slow and inequitable vaccine roll-out by the Ministry of Health, but unfortunately by that stage of the year, our students were in

In what ways did the Teacher Journal challenge you? Being Pakeha, I was initially challenged by some of the materials including the Teacher Journal challenge, but realized that by reframing my attitude I was able to avoid taking offence. Unfortunately, I did not devote sufficient time or consistency to the
Our jnr students - yrs 9 - 11 akonga (around 120 students this interrupted year) used the kit to unpack and begin to address the lens of white supremacy which is the default settings that NZ society employs. Our akonga at Te Kuiti High School are over 60% Maori, plus Pasifika and Asian, leaving around one third Pakeha. So during my three years at TKHS they have been on a journey as I have used issues like the Black Lives Matter movement to consistently return our korero to the ethnic implications for NZ health, education, justice, employment etc... The Challenging Racism kit has been provocative and challenging for some, but excellent in helping akonga to view the world from a Treaty based perspective.

How effective was the use of social Media for Fighting Social Injustice Worked very well with those who had previous knowledge of the app, was a challenge for students who had no access.
In what ways did the Teacher Journal challenge you? Overall encouraging engagement when we got the chance to use effectively.
Unfortunately I joined very late in the year, I am hopeful that I can start the kit again in 2022

How effective was the use of social Media for Fighting Social Injustice Our kids don't necessarily use Social media for good, so this was great.
In what ways did the Teacher Journal challenge you? Not so much challenge but definitely reinforce my views.
Challenging racism is a constant and this kit is hugely important in our journey. I love how easy it is to use and how broad the examples are.

How effective was the use of social Media for Fighting Social Injustice We didn't use the social media function
In what ways did the Teacher Journal challenge you? Lots of big ideas for teachers to engage with and reflect on their own assumptions and how they impact their practice.
Unfortunately due to the extended lockdown in Auckland we didn't get much of an opportunity to use the resources with students, although we did try to adapt some of the resources for online discussion. I did enjoy the teacher resources and we will continue to use the kit in our Human Rights and Migration units in 2022 where we explore issues of racism.
