“I really liked the tasks leading up to the charge station. Really getting the students to think. This kit didn't resound with all students and only a few got into the charge station. Those that did were great about it, but some who may have needed it most didn't really put themselves forward. Definitely enjoyed all the ideas and the letters the students got from their parents were gold...”

How have the components within the kit helped develop your student self-confidence? The booklet was a good way to start term 1. It helped put important vocabulary into our conversations.

How have the components of the kit helped develop Student-Teacher communication? The pad that the students fill in has been helpful for some students to initiate a discussion with teachers that probably wouldn't have otherwise.

How have the components within the kit helped develop your student self-confidence? Children were able to identify how they were feeling and also whay they might be feeling this way. They loved learning different options for dealing with their feelings. They could appreciate that we all have different strengths in different aspects.

How have the components of the kit helped develop Student-Teacher communication? The daily tokens were great conversation starters and the children were very honest in their choices. I was able to identify a few home issues that I was not previously aware of. The charging station was fabulous as children could use it independently.

“The timing of this was super as we had just come out of Covid and resilience was a big issue and talking point. I loved the way the children could use the kit independently and they were really supportive of each other.”

How have the components within the kit helped develop your student self-confidence? The cards gave them the opportunity to voice and discuss their feelings. It also helped them see positives in situations and during the day.

How have the components of the kit helped develop Student-Teacher communication? We are always focussed on positive relationships with students, so prior to the kit, we already had strong relationships and there was already a lot of teacher-student discussions and interaction. The tokens and 'red cards' just further developed this.

“A big focus of our school, and specifically with the year 7 and 8's, is to build more self-confidence, resilience and to provide them with tools to have a more positive wellbeing. The kit was well organised and easy to display. It was eye-catching and learners quickly learnt how to use and navigate it successfully use it. We started using the kit and it went over really well with the students. Later, it seemed to fizzle down and the students were less interested in doing it.”

“Unfortunately our Staff member that was going to work with the children on this (Mindfulness and Zones) started doing this a week before lockdown so she was unable to continue on with it, and then when we came back from Lockdown it didn't suit to cotinue on.”

How have the components within the kit helped develop your student self-confidence? Students seem to be more confident to speak up in class and we have created a safe environment to do so.

How have the components of the kit helped develop Student-Teacher communication? It has been great. Students are good at letting me know if they have any problems that have, but the kit allows them to have the opportunity to fill in the form without having to speak face to face if they prefer not to.

“As a class we found this to be an excellent resource. Students responded positively to each activity. I could see students building their resilience and learning that mistakes are one of the ways we can learn.”
