How have the components within the kit helped develop your student self-confidence? Great talking point as a display but unfortunately, because of Covid19 and the lockdown, we ran out of time to really give it a go

How have the components of the kit helped develop Student-Teacher communication? Unfortunately, because of Covid19 and the lockdown, we ran out of time to give it a go but students were very interested in the Charging station that was made in the class. I will use some of the features of this kit in my Zones of regulation display.

“This kit was exciting to open and make into a classroom display. It fits nicely into our other PB4L learning of Growth Mindsets and Zones of regulation. Unfortunately, because of Covid19 and the lockdown, we ran out of time to really give it a go. I would definitely sign up for a Kit like this again and will save as much of the current display material to use at a future date.”

How have the components within the kit helped develop your student self-confidence? They have supported us to 'open the door' to discussions about our uniqueness, our place in life, our self esteem and the way in which external factors can influence this.

How have the components of the kit helped develop Student-Teacher communication? I selected 'somewhat effective ' for the above question only because we were just getting into this when the lockdown began so, although the students hooked into it really well it was not sustained enough to make a big difference.

“This kit encourages students to take a deeper look at themselves, articulate and consider their reactions to everyday situations and the effect of challenges and external events on how they feel and respond. It has been a valuable way to kick off the year. Thank you.”

How have the components within the kit helped develop your student self-confidence? When the students arrived in the morning and would put their token in what charge they felt, they proceeded to talk with one another and ask how they were.

How have the components of the kit helped develop Student-Teacher communication? It is great resource for me as it allows a non verbal communication from student to teacher which is very helpful for the students in my class who don't like to talk about what may have happened to make them feel the way they are feeling.

“My students found this kit very useful. I have a very large group of boys in my class and it was very interesting to see how they acted maturely about the checking in every morning and had a hard think about how they felt.”

How have the components of the kit helped develop Student-Teacher communication? Yes by giving a common language for us all to use and provide the ability/permission for students to talk to us if they need to - some children had to be given this even though it was always there.

How have the components within the kit helped develop your student self-confidence? It did build some confidence but the lockdown changed the confidence level as children had many different learning experiences while in lockdown. Students with devices were more confident to complete tasks and take risks with their learning.

How have the components of the kit helped develop Student-Teacher communication? Students with serious issues tend to make direct contact with the teacher or not at all and teacher knowledge of the child's change in demeanour tends to be more of an indication.

“It's a real pity that lockdown came in the middle of the use of the kit, as students communication become online and those with the issues were either excluding themselves from video calls or they did not open lines to communication.”

How have the components within the kit helped develop your student self-confidence? I feel that this kit helped with having more understanding about each others personal lives and that we all go through some sort of struggle. We also had in-depth conversations about stereotyping when doing this kit.

How have the components of the kit helped develop Student-Teacher communication? I feel that it was a good way to break the ice at the beginning of the year for all students and give them a chance to open up and be proud of who they are without judgement. I feel that students are happy to talk to me when there is a problem.

“This kit was really awesome to use at the start of the year. Especially with year 7's who have just transitioned from primary to intermediate. We started the unit with completing all the activities and working through the booklets individually and with their families. I felt that this kit promoted a lot of in-depth discussion about who we are and respecting others and where they come from. From this point we added a bit of flare to the kit and created our own taonga wall. This is where students brought a photo or something special to them to put on the wall. It was good to see the other memebers of the class asking why items or people were important to them. This made the students in class a little vaunrable by sharing, but also proud that they could display something of who they are and where they come from. The charging station had good intent and I just started to explain how this charging station would work and the meaning behind it. The students only used it for about a week and Covid happened. I loved how the display had so much colour that studnet's and teachers were drawn to it every time! I am disappointed that I didn't get the opportunity to trial it out longer. However, I would love to see a kit that could do with sharing and researching student's different cultures and finsing out about whakapapa (family trees) and who their family were. The connection that I have developed with the sutdents has grown and I think this is also due to the fact that I joined in with some of the activities too. Therefore studnets felt that they knew a bit about me too.”
